Ok just played through a SLO and Orange 4x12 sounded very rectifier like to me just saying lol

The original recto circuits were pretty close to the SLO actually but the real difference in tone I believe comes from the transformers. The deyoung transformers have a lot to do with the SLO tone.
Soldano's SLO circuit made good use of a cathode follower and he's been quoted saying he probably should have obtained a patent on the SLO circuit because he's been ripped off in fender-like proportions. I've had several rectos (kept an early blackface rev G) and SLO's and played back to back and I don't hear much similarity in tone and definitely a drastic difference in feel. The SLO to me is much stiffer feeling and not quite as saturated and dark. Even the earliest recto's had a lower midrange where the Soldano has more of a "mid" midrange. A little flatter than a Marshall.
Just my observation.
And yes, I agree that the 5150's are not even close to the other two when it comes to build quality. The boards are connected with cheap computer style connectors. Its pretty common to have to hardwire the high voltage connector to the power amp board as it overheats and can't handle the voltages. Definitely a design flaw and oversight by peavy that mesa and Soldano wouldnt have dared put into production on a "flagship" model but then again, the peavys were built down to a price point.

No worries. Honestly, when push comes to shove a great amp will shine in the power section when you push it hard. Mesa makes great products no doubt. Liked the Mark III when I had it, would like to play through a Tremoverb sometime. There's a MKIIC+ coliseum in the mpls Craigslist, no GEQ but wants 3400....out of my pay grade.
