Wait a minute...wait a minute...

I thought the Duncan "custom custom" was 'THE' exact pickup as Eddie's old one.

That may have been the old Eddie pickup, but he has a new one now... and it costs $400!!! or $150 if you are a cheap bastid and take the one without the official markings. :D

Per that time line Ed made the poor slob make 65347867482 models for him to try out and it took a year to make this pup

But Seymour worked with Eddie in recreating his old pickup long ago and he.....ah nevermind

Built to NASA specs..I know.

thats ridicuolus. I have the duncan 78' which is supposedly what he used, but wow this is just insane marketing hype.

Ok, in all fairness...anytime somebody puts out a seriously limited (500 pc) item, the price skyrockets.

The non-limited one is $150. That's still too much, IMO, but it's far from being the most expensive (non-ltd) pickup on the market. It's right in the same price neighborhood as the SD EVH/78 and the Bare Knuckles VHII...both of which are cashing in on the EVH association without any actual endorsement from him.

The new pickup is basically a degaused Custom Custom. Here is the spec differences between it and the 78

Seymour Duncan '78 Model
Magnet: Fully Charged Alnico 2
Wire: Plain Enamel
DCR: ~ 9.0K

EVH Frankenstein
Magnet: Degaussed Alnico 2
Wire: Poly
DCR: ~ 14K

Duncan is building them.

So basically we're paying extra money because this thing is signed?

Explain to me the point of installing a pickup in a guitar that's been signed by EVH when the fscking signature is ON THE BOTTOM OF THE PICKUP WHERE NOBODY WILL SEE IT.

Glad to see folks are still using their noodles these days :)

DUDE, Russ, STOP THINKING LOGICALLY!! :aww:

no there not the same, the EVH frankenstrat pickup is an assymetrical wind with a fully charged alnico 2.the custom custom is an even wind pickup with an alnico 2 magnet.big difference tone wise..

I know it is not a good thing to bag Ed as he is trying but man does he make it too easy to just rail him lately.

Yeah, but if it was a flourescent pink pickup you could install in a flourescent green body, you'd trip over your wallet running to the phone, wouldn't ya Scotty?

I don't think the price is outrageous at all at $149. Not compared to all the other guys with no known tone pedigree, winding pickups in their basements and charging as much if not more than this pickup that had EVH's ear involved in it's original development.

Heck, I'm no where near the EVH fanboy that so many are, but I'd have to think that those 500 signed pickups will sell pretty quickly. They don't need 50,000 people to think it's a great idea, just 500. I wouldn't think twice about spending $200 on a killer pickup and there are lots and lots and lots of people in this world who make more than twice as much as me. It's all relative...

Oh don't worry Scotty. We saw Vai today. A whole group of us including Pat. I won't spoil the surprise. :hys:
