In the 80s when Eddie went to Seymour and asked him to wind him a pup, Duncan gave him the Custom Custom. When they were working on this pup, they pulled the strat pup out and it was the CC. It had been degaused from use and abuse. So they tried to recreat that sound with this new pup. But it is basically a deguased CC. This came from the Duncan people.

The new pickup is basically a degaused Custom Custom. Here is the spec differences between it and the 78

Seymour Duncan '78 Model
Magnet: Fully Charged Alnico 2
Wire: Plain Enamel
DCR: ~ 9.0K

EVH Frankenstein
Magnet: Degaussed Alnico 2
Wire: Poly
DCR: ~ 14K

Duncan is building them.

Damn, for that kind of dough I would expect they would have ponied up and used Plain Enamel wire over the cheaper Poly wire. :gethim:

well you could get the motorcity blisster bucker pickup, its a copy of that frankenstrat pickup but wound with plain enamel wire.dave friedman has both pickups and think the blisster on the plain enamel sounds better...

Damn. That's what a pickup would look like if I tried to make one. And I probably wouldn't be able to sell it for $20.
