I demo the EVH Frankenstein Pickup!

I swapped the Custom Custom out for the EVH Frankenstein pickup. I like it! It has that nice A2 feel to it. It stays a little clearer on top than the CC. I would describe it as a mix of the Duncan 78 and the Custom Custom.

Very brown!! I think they key to this tone is the Bray, not the EVH pickup. But nice playing!

It's funny when you realize that everyone chases that that tone but is too afraid to use it in an actual band, playing something other than VH. I can't think of one band I've heard using it since the 80's.

Are you kidding? A hot rodded plexi is an awesome tone and there are many variations of it just by using the volume knob. Just my opinion but I'm sure it is shared by others here.

It's probably because I didn't grow up in the same generation so I don't have the same level of admiration but I never understood the chasing of VH tone. I mean don't get me wrong, I really like it and dig it but I dig it for VH stuff. So I mean if you were in a tribute band, sure but other than that...? And I don't mean trying to create a deviation of VH's tone but the full out chase to replicate his tone-just don't get it.

Regardless though, I still appreciate good EVH tone and this is sir is good.

You didn't get my meaning. A plexi tone is common in many recorded bands but not his. Except for some bands that came soon after in the 80's I've never heard a band that uses that sound or, I guess I should say, plays their Plexi in that way. Hell, my one and only amp is a '69 circuit 100 watter. To say his sound isn't more specific than just a regular hot rode plexi tone (not even getting into that his amp wasn't hot-rodded per se) is to negate a few decades of the most obsessive tone search I know of. Guy's attaining it for their man cave and the internet is not the same as working bands with actual exposure. It may be because it's so identified as his sound that no other original guitarist wanted to be thought of as an EVH wannabe or usurper.
