As an outsider this seems like material in an iPhone 5

A guy I talked to who is friends with an employee of Fractal told me some not so nice things about Cliff. I don't know anything about him but if half of what this guy said is true hes a real bastard.

This has less to do with "Cliff" than it does putting the cart before the horse. If you're gonna blowout a new FW version, ya gotsta make sure your primary editing software is up to speed and accessible at that time or thereabouts. I am pretty well relegated to using the patches I've made rather than "tweaking new tones" as I can't stand staring at that green screen of insanity.

Of course, I should be SO LUCKY AND BLESSED to have and own and be able to use an Axe-II. I know, I know... I'm just saying, the editing software is kinda important in my HUMBLE opine.

I've had some direct conversation with Mr. Chase and honestly, I can't say anything bad about the guy. The company is what it is - a viral epidemic of popularity straight outta the gates and a helluva technological advancement. My own fault for becoming reliant on it.

That being said - I played my 20thA-X for the better part of the day today. Sorry Folks, that shit just takes the cake.

Well Gary, it's highly unlikely that I will ever meet Cliff, so it really doesn't concern me what sort of guy he is. And, it's probably even less likely Mo, that I will ever mess with the Axe Edit, so I'm not too bothered with that either. There's probably a preset or two with a little on-board tweaking that will work well for me. If not, I'll keep the box handy. :D

Haven't been sniffing around the Fractal Forum yet. RT provides a decent daily dose of comedians, opinions, assholes and nut-hugging to keep things in perspective. The move over to the "dark side" is a big one for me, so, I will keep an open mind with it and let it run its course to see if it works. If not, I always have a nice collection of my favorite kick ass amps to fall back on for a reality check. The IIC+ will never be too far away...

Let me tell you one thing to download and install in the axe as soon as you get it.

It's the New OwnHammer beta impulses
They really rock.

http://www.ownhammer.com/free/OwnHammer-Public-Beta.zip

I mean, they're monstrous! lol
Better then every other cab impulse I've heard so far.
My Axe-FX II haven't sound that good since I've installed them.

Gary, remember on July 27 when you apologized to me for being "an ass". Well my friend your being an ass again.

You spoke to a guy who knows a guy that works at fractal? Really Gary? Was this the same guy who told you i was holding back cameron production, so I can do runs of friedman amps?

gary, how you post the things you do is beyond me. The shit storm that you might have just started over at Fractal HQ just so you can make a statement that is 3rd party hearsay and completely irrelevant to the topic of this blog is absurd, sad and hurtful. Now I know why your stupid enough to believe Mark Cameron is a good guy who is just depressed and never had any intentions of ripping anyone off.

I probably know cliff better than anyone on this forum and what I know is this.

Cliff has spent most of his adult life designing sonar related equipment that has kept this country safe.
Cliff could've probably made a ton of money by continuing to design such products. However he refused to be extorted by corrupt politicians.
Cliff has created a tool that has and will change the way amplifier designers and musicians look at the future of guitar amplification forever.
Cliff and his wife Danielle are good honest people whom have treated me with nothing but respect and im honored to be their friends. They are very loyal to me and without their support and friendship, I would not of been able to get my business projects off the ground, like Friedman Amplification, Luxxtone guitars and Hydra Technologies.

Dammit I gotta wait another week for your review? What the hell is this place coming to...

Seriously waiting to hear your thoughts on this device. I am effing tired of swapping amps...

That's assuming I can unbox it, turn it on, plug in and start playing immediately through some good presets without pushing too many buttons.......

I hope your luck is better than mine...I did not like the factory presets hardly at all.
When building one it wasn't easy coming from an amp and pedals background...there's just way too many things to mess with and they all do have a pretty profound impact on the tone.

At the end of the day I couldn't dial out a bit of digital crispiness on the top end that isn't there with a real amp.

I had trouble loading up others presets too...they usually didn't sound very good despite sounding great on their clips.

Good luck Steve, if you can get through those hurdles it might work for you.
It is clear digital technology is going to get there....just a bit too complex for me right now.
I think the guy groovenut (Alex Petross) was making some cool presets and think that may be the way for the Axe to work for me...hire someone to dial it in unfortunately.

I'm all for trying new things, and I hope this goes well for you Steve. Just don't forget who your friends are.....

they will bugger u
Yep. The "virtual" buggering. And if that's not good enough, the lads will start coming over here speaking their 2 cents.

Odd bunch.

I'm serious - WTF is up with this rather CRITICAL software editor?!?!?! I mean, I need it to work smoothly - yet - most of the cats over there are saying "everything is fine, I am more than satisfied [thank you] using the LCD screen [i kneel to you] to adjust my presets [you are god] and play from the adjustments [we praise you oh axe-god] on the box itself [you have saved me from talentless hell]. I personally don't see [i am blind without you fractal] why anyone would complain about the editor [for ye, i die fractal] as FAS is obviously doing this for our greater good, for which [i pray to ye] and we should be ever-so-grateful."

I mean, THEY LOCKED THE POST DOWN THAT ASKED ABOUT WHEN IT WOULD BE READY!!!!! And - to my astonishment - they're OKAY with that!!!!

Just a rant. I'm off to play now...

Now that is funny. Even over at TGP when anybody says anything critical of the AXE people come out of the woodwork to cry. It's very intertaining!!!

Oh and I hope the placements of the outlets in my home is not still bothering you. lol

IMHO if you don't plan on digging deeper than little tweaks in the presets then I personally wouldn't even bother unpacking it. Maybe that will work for you but for me to get what I was looking for I really wanted to learn the unit and see what it was capable of. I found I got much closer to what I like when I knew how to go beyond basic tweaks on a preset. I often started with a blank patch and added an amp I knew I liked and found a good speaker match which was typically an Ownhammer IR and made sure my levels were good and even through all parts of the rig. BTW the new Ownhammer IR's are a step forward in the world of IRs. I would encourage you to at least learn that much and how to add FX and check their levels. Don't worry about all the really deep parameters though. I found it did make some difference using those parameters but the changes weren't night and day OMG changes in tone.

Also don't let the negative talk about the editor on the computer scare you. I found it to be fine but a little glitchy but nothing over the top. It's usable and I'd put up with the little glitches over constantly having to deal with the front of the AxeFX. I learned to get around it on the front but liked editing on the computer much more. The front face is where IMHO the 11R and Kemper kick the Axe's ass.

Just my worthless .02

Alot of guys are using them as backups in their live rigs and for the effects alone. Might not be a bad investment for those reasons alone. Sounds like a great sound tool..I can't wait to hear your feedback..Jedi-Tubemaster

To me a PODXT for 100 bucks is a good backup. $2200 for a backup doesn't compute with my brian. Yes, I have a guy named Brian who does all the thinking for me.

Feckin Fedex didn't pick up today like they were scheduled to. So, more delays. Probably going to be another week now, dammit.

Meanwhile, I put together a slick rig for this weekends gigs. Guitar in and split to a totally dry IIC+ backine with a Radial JDX direct to FOH and the split signal to a Digitech RP1000 which was direct to the FOH amps and PA. Had a patch similar to the IIC+ and Recto set up and one lead patch on the RP. Blended the signal using the volume pedal on the RP. This is what I am going to be doing with the Axe, with nothing on the backline.

Don't believe I would toss $2200 for a back up either. Either it works, or it travels!
