Once you find your tones, yep, it really is that easy.

Ctrl X / Ctrl V........???? I will gladly copy someone else' work without thinking twice about it!

Just reading this thread...my "I'm an idiot technophobe lazy ass ain't got time to diddle knobs look at screens figure out what the shit means when I do find it then only to have to start all over so fuck it sell it" meter is totally in the red but!! I will fuck with an amp for days on end getting it to do what I want cuz...We understand each other :D

Interestingly enough, I support this rant utterly and completely.

Well said.

Stevie, you'll cop a bunch of tones and tweak 'em to your liking. No sweat. The A2 does go deep and it's hard not to wanna really get in there and work with the 'parameters'. I mean, c'mon, bias adjustments and voltage sag and OT swaps??? You gotsta admit, that's somewhat attractive, no? But ya, seriously, it all comes down to "PLAYING" and I found I was spending more time tweaking, less time playing* with the Axe. Since the editor's been MIA/AWOL, I've not been using it at all - just resorting to my blessed amps. I love them. And I've been playing more.

[Ed. - * not all for naught, my goals in incessant tweaking are to get that holy grail tone that's suitable to my head and the song at the time. The A2 allows me to do this. It does it very very well. SO just sayin' I'm not just cracking out on it, there is method to my madness]

I'm not against them or anything technical at all but....I just get too damn flustered cuz...well...I am an idiot when it comes to anything more hi tech than an Alesis Quadraverb... :D

See, I'm not a technophobe, but the thing with the A2 - at least to me - is there are too many variables to play with. With an amp, you got a 4x12 and a head, rest is up to me. With this thing, hellfire, it's a lifelong learning curve.

Much like what Devin said, "took a year to get my tone with the Ultra, will take another year to get my tone with the Axe-II".

I'm scared now..... :dunno: :dunno:

Fortunately, the IIC+, my new Naked and a few other kick ass amps, are going to be standing by and ready for action. Since it replaces nothing, and not having to force myself to like it, will have direct impact on whether or not I can find the time to master it. I am not after a complete palette of tones and comparison studies of it sounds like Amp A or Amp Z, nor will I be playing solo's with 8 part harmonies and a dozen FX blocks. Just a few good models and add in some basic FX like I play now, but with better FOH sound, less stage clutter and more mobility. If I don't like it as a main, it can always be set up in my favorite W/D rig, although a costly unit for that. Or, it will travel well in its original packing to an owner in Europe for $2750. Could possibly be the only thing I wouldn't lose money on.

Fear not Steve. There's a reason why so many of us and especially professionals are using the Axe FX. Just don't play it for 5 mins, get pissed, and say fuck this.

I won't and thanks. I've got the time to put into it. That, and Mark Day is on my speed-dial.... :D

It's the evolution. Actually, I came close several times to getting one, but then something else would come along. Rob can attest to that. I think I have put 2 or 3 deposits down and changed my mind. But, just this last year, the professional use has gone viral with it and becoming accepted. What's funny though, is I am not even curious about the tone packed away in it, the fX, or the application of the A2. That part of it is there and proven and the basic stuff should be easy enough to coax out of it. And, I am not interested in using it with a power amp and a cab as an amp substitute. I know exactly what I want it to do and it will be a stand alone amp, or nothing at all.

Anyway, looking forward to it now.

Fedex dropped off the Fractal rig today. How do you bias this thing?

Took about 5 minutes to unbox the A2 and the two RCF powered wedges, hook them up along with two DI lines to the PA. 4 hours later, I came up for air and to give my fingers a break. Without having to open the manual or touch anything in the menu functions, I cruised through all the presets and picked out several that fit me well. Of course, I had to mess around with some of the cool FX presets and clean stuff along the way. I haven't unboxed the MCF controller yet. Saving that for another day.

I feel quite sure I can make this rig work for me. Being able to drive the FOH PA with this kit just kicks ass in every way and something I am looking forward to. Getting the same quality feed to the monitors is the gravy. It will take me a few weeks probably to get down to messing with my own presets and getting hooked up to a computer for some of the IR's and sims that are out there.

Those RCF's are a great powered wedges!!
Sounds like your taking the right approach to the Axe!!

hope you have better luck with the axe than me

it was cool but in the end im too dumb and "tweaky" to have so many adjustable parameters at my fingertips

congrats that lil box is a ton of fun

You're fueling me

Since I've moved, I have volume constraints; tube amps are next to worthless for me, now.

Hey, Fuck both you guys! These threads scare me because I have a tendency to get side-tracked around gear very quickly

I have owned the Ultra (2X) and the Axe II and I moved-into tube amps and have been much happier and I don't ever want to go down that rabbit hole ever again   ...I spent more time worrying about if my sound "was real enough" that I think I went a little nutty...(Power Amp/Cab, FRFR/Monitors? Headphone for Pete's sake?..Arrrggghhh! I tried them all and got truly insane

I am so jealous of the guys that make this work for themselves...It was just never me.

I constantly have to remind myself to PLEASE not watch any more Mark Day videos because I want to buy another every time I do) I have learned maybe eight knobs and a tube amp with one cab choice are about as deep as my brain can comprehend.

...I swear to God, if you guys drag me down that hole again it is gonna get ugly! I am really happy with my current amp situation so somebody better nuke this thread fast!

^^^^^Here's a bump for you, Ripley :D ^^^^

I had a Standard for 3 years or so, and I never bothered tweaking; just set up about four sounds, and left it alone.

Hell, now that I think about it, I still have a full rack set up, just waiting for a pre....

I also love the idea of the MFC not requiring any ass beating set up....hmmmmm :D

Steve what firmware version are you currently running?

press the utility button on the front and arrow right to the firmware tab.

Here's a fun little video.
