I don't know about u guys, but after all I love EMGs 4 metal

I have one or two guitars with EMGs -- 81/81 and a ZW set. The 81/81 axe is great for metal but lacks something "organic" in the tone. It's like I can hear the wood more than the pickups with passives.

Dude! yah EMG's, but gotta' say - nice V you got there Joey...

Reza, for your style definitely low output work great :)
Hahaha - :poke: | :D

Good quality high output passives do that much better.
Passive like this? Alright man, who TF is this girl? She's got a caboose to frickin' die for...damn d00d!

Never been a fan. As others have said, I much prefer the clarity of mid-high output BKPs. The ceramic Nailbomb is just huge.

I was thinking the same thing. One too many knobs though.  That pickgaurd rules.

I like EMG for metal but they are not versatile enough if you go between distortions and cleans in my opinion.

I understand what you guys mean by dry or sterile. They're very surgical. I grew up with EMGs so my ear got used to the tightness and compression.

Now when I play passives, I find them a bit loose most of the time.... well, at least for tight rythm stuff..... for hard rock and rock I prefer them to EMGs

this is exactly how i feel too.

i am so used to the emg feel and sound. i have two other guitars loaded with warpigs, and i like the emgs better. i love the dry/sterile sound.

I have a Suhr system on my strat (FL/FL/SSV) and I gotta say even though I like the singles, and the SSV splitted, which I actually like a lot....I don't care for it when it's in humbucker mode)

I have pretty simple tastes when it comes to pickups. I'm cool with a Gibson 500T or reasonable facsimile in the bridge and a Duncan SH-2 or PAF Pro in the neck. :dunno:

EMG85 is my go to pickup for metal.... Haven't found anything yet to replace them, and I've tried ALOT.

Have you tried Duncan Livewire HMET's?

Destroy EMG for metal IMO......

edit: you can roll the volume down and get what you want as well, very responsive.

I've got one, havent installed it yet, I'm picking up a BC Rich Gunslinger in July, I plan on putting it in that to see how I like it....

I have a Charvel with an Anderson H3 that I love and one of my Juggernauts has a Duncan Alternative 8 in it as well, and you guys all know I'm a metal guy through and through... those pickups are great for Metal as well, but my 85 is my go to pick up....

if you dont like, PM ill buy....PS where the hell did you get one??? Im guessing its white?

I love EMGs. It is weird because I am always trying passive pickups because I think I am missing something, but a 85 always seems to work well with everything. Passives are hit or miss and always seem fuzzy or unclear.

Funny enough I don't have any 6 string EMGs installed right now

My favorite is probably the EMG707. That pickup sounds good into everything I use. My passives are all hit or miss. Right now I am also using a Duncan Distortion, Duncan Blackout, Gibson 500T, Dimarzio Dactivator, and Duncan Invader.

Interesting. I have a few Strats loaded with EMG S single coils, and they are the only Strats I'll use live. Why?....

1-Sound fantastic wide open (i.e., guitar volume on '10')
2-Sound great for in-between sounds (i.e., guitar volume between '1' and '9')
3-SUPER quiet (for single coils)

I play no metal though - just rock/hard rock/alternative/blues.

Maybe the single coils differ significantly from the humbuckers (e.g., 81/85's)?......

Or, maybe it's just a case of different strokes for different folks! ;)

I hated EMGs, but had some out of control bass with an old rig and replaced the DiMarzios in my 7-string RG with EMGs, and it really helped. I've been using this guitar as a main for awhile, and now I'm about to make a switch to baritone with passives (BKP Nailbombs) and worried about keeping a tight, clear tone. I thought about checking into the EMG Hetfield set too. The EMG sound has worked well with the RG, but the pickups simply don't have any character or rawness to them. I could strike chords and really hear them roar with DiMarzios, but with EMGs it's bland, but the clarity and sterility pays off when it comes to death metal riffage. I hope the Nailbombs can keep up and get me away from EMGs.

same opinon..... EMG humbuckers for clean has been a disaster in my experience (81, 85, 60, 89) I just don't like them, BUT I had a strat with two EMG S singles for the longest time and it ROCKED!

here' a video of such guitar with the EMG singles. Right now that guitar has Suhr FL/FL/SSV system in it, but the EMG where AWESOME. I'm saving that system to install it on a cheap squier or something later on.

I Love EMG's, been playing passives for over 15years until I switched back in 2005. I always made fun of them because of their sterile application. I now play sa/sa/85 in all of my guitars and they sound amazing clean/blues and all out rock. It's not everyones cup of tea, but they have a character that cannot be duplicated in any other pickup. The right amp is crucial however. Carol-ann/emg's are a Killer combo...........carry on gents.
