I don't understand the high end Pickup Market

Whatever Tom Holmes does is worth every penny. I bought one from him 15 years ago for about $250. I wish I had bought 10 of them.

That being said, if you are just going to heap mass distortion on your sound, the pickup really doesn't matter that much.
Congratulations. This may be the first non stupid thing you've ever posted on here! I'd give you a trophy if I didn't think you'd chug motor oil from it.

Thanks, but I still think you are a gay retard.

Got any science or math to back that up? Gonna need to see some receipt's for that explanation!
Like Valve already explained, the string's vibrational pattern is largely determined by the wood's inherent hardness/density/and moisture content (oily woods dampen high end). Hardware (bridge and nut material, etc) adds to this as well. Also consider the neck joint as bolt on, glue in and neck throughs all have distinct attack and bloom characteristics. Add all this up and the resulting recipe has a huge effect on string vibration, completely separate from just the pitch itself. The pickup hears that, adds it's own influence which is further shaped by the player's touch and pick itself.

How about pickup lines? Let me try one; what's a nice girl like you doing in a place like this?

If you consider me nice, I feel sorry for your experiences :ROFLMAO: TBH, sometimes things are a bit vulgar here, but I'm not easily offended and not really PC.
Boys will be boys and I grew up around the worst of them. 99% of the time it's an eyeroll, not an offense taken if I find something "out of line"
This forum is also one of the last places left where you don't have to walk on eggshells as a whole. That said, I do find myself using emojis more than I have in the past to get my point across because sometimes feel like people take offense to what is being said when I'm just being dry or sarcastic.

This. It's about the shape or attack/sustain effects more than the tone itself, imo. If the strings weren't attached and you plucked them above to excite the pickups, it probably wouldn't make a difference what the guitar was made from. But they are attached and one affects the other.

My humor is so dry that I regularly shop in the feminine hygiene product aisle. Rolls your eyes at that one 😵‍💫

Nope! You’re gonna have to do a lot better than that!

You need show the exact mechanism for transferring and conversion of the inherent wood qualities into a magnetic signal!!!

The jb/Jazz combo is a classic for a reason. I'm just not a fan of the pokiness of the mids of the jb, but I understand people that do
Yeah the JB has been a pretty standard "go to" for me for general purpose rock stuffs which is what I use the PRS for.

The exact mechanism is the strings, dude. Which are connected to the guitar. :hys:

No, the difference is the 1000s of hours in R&D people spend perfecting their version of the pickup.

Guitars are literally just 20$ in wood with a couple pounds 3$ of pot metal. There's no reason guitars should cost more than 50$.

See how stupid that sounds?
Mostly agree. But also a test on what some fools are willing to pay.

Insert the limited EVH Franky guitar as exhibit 1…………………(emphasis added on the dots)

I 100% agree with that. It's the same, I think, for the super stupid expensive pickups, too - like a grand a piece or whatever.

This is obviously a scale, not black and white

But dumbing everything down to component cost is pretty epic retardation IMO

"This skyscraper is just 10 grand worth of concrete"

"This Ferrari is 800$ worth of steel and aluminum"

The final cost is in the knowledge and R&D, and this goes triple for musical instruments
