I know how it works

I know how it sounds

I just don't understand why people like them and continue to use them

They sound stupid, and clutter the sound

They are for Kirk Hammett fanboys and highschoolers in general

They are absolutely pointless and have zero resale value :aww:

Want to buy my Vox for like $50?

Negative. They can be used as a filter to spice up some leads. And on that note someone buy his wah bc thats a solid wah he is selling there. :D

I hear ya. Most times I get annoyed when I hear a wah mucking up the tone. Having said that, I have heard some stuff that does sound great with wah.

Hehehe...after all, what would the theme for "Shaft" be wit out da wah?

Don't be a hater!!!!  JK gene.

I think it all depends on how you use it.

I'll admit. I probably step on my wah pedal once every 5 shows. It's just not a huge part of my style. And Kirk Hammets WahWah Wanking is not my cup of tea.

But, here's a list of people who use the wah in the way that I like:

Zakk Wylde: More of a sweeping, filter boost thing. To send certain parts of the solo over the top. Almost in the same sense of the way EVH used the phaser, but with your own control over it.

Kevin Cadogan: Hate on Third Eye Blind all you want, that dude had some awesome ethereal tones using a wah pedal and a boss RV3. Unreal.

Jerry Cantrell: The solo for Man in the Box just wouldn't be the same without the wah pedal.

Slash: Again, lots of his solos just wouldn't be the same without the wah. And I like how some of his solos, he kicks the wah in and out, to kind of give the solos different, seperate sections.

Hmm, I'm kind of inspired to try my Vox again. However, I predict epic disappointment again :(

Satch on the crush of love, flying in a blue dream
Petrucci- Voices ,LIE,

Michael Amott and Micheal Schenker are far and away the best wah users IMO. The way they both use it to sound so expressive and accentuate specific notes and phrases is just awesome. Guys like Hamster and Hack Wylde have no clue what they're doing with a wah. Just playing fast pentatonic licks and moving the toe up and down randomly. Pathetic.

If you watch porno, you will understand wah, young padawan :D

PS That avatar is f'n hilarious, who the hell is that??

I thought Jimi used his fairly well.

Don't blame the hardware blame the user.

Don't forget John Norum too :) He uses the pedal almost in the exact same way, purely to accentuate certain notes and phrases and give them a little more of a vocal quality. Schenker and Norum are the two guys who inspired me with the wah :)

Yeah, I hear a ton of Norum influence in Amott's playing and use of the wah. They both have amazing vibrato as well. That's another thing you need to really get the most out of a wah pedal.

Okay, I blame you. :( :aww: :aww: :aww:

Nevermind, I blame myself. I sound awesome with delay, and terrible with wah, :aww: :aww: :aww: :aww: :aww: :aww: :aww: :aww:

Wah is about the player more than the effect. You have to work it. If you can't dig it, don't use it.

I'll keep my crybaby  up front with me mucking up my tone just the same.

What about Tony Iommi in Dirty Women? Wah has its uses... When not applied to hide crappy playing or as a substitute for decent bends and phrase.

Just depends who is wanking on one. The Wah is a mighty tool in the right hands.

FTW
