I finally got the Blackstar HT-5 head a few days ago

What a great little amp! Sounds killer through my g12h-30 4x12 cab


Ive tried all the new low wattage amps and they all had something to them but I prefered the Blackstar.


I think that they did an amazing job with this amp. I'm finding a ton of tones with it and time will tell if it lasts lol Im only saying that because some people have had some problems with them but so far so good. With that said, For the price of a quality pedal, I got a killer amp.

They are great little amps!! Im really impressed with it so far!!!

Im really liking the tone from the HT-5! I may end up picking one up at some point, and i would like to try the HT-5 combo and see how it sounds. The combo could be ideal for me if it sounds as good as the head!

I got the head version because I can pick and choose the speakers. Other then that, I can't see the combo sucking! They did a great job with this

Loud enough to get a killer sustain and piss people off/get me kicked out at my condo but not loud enough to play with a drummer. Id definitely slave it through my boogie 2:90 if I was going to use it live or at a rehearsal

I'm curious - MF's site says it has 1 12AX7 - there's no way it's getting that much gain out of a single pair of triodes, so I assume it's got some SS gain and phase splitting? That said, the clips I've heard sound freakishly great and the reviews are making me wonder...maybe Blackstar got the SS+Tube ratio right?

I don't think it has all that much gain, but with a boost it easily has more than enough. Almost every amp sounds better with a boost though.

Thats why I slapped in a C9. It has more gain on the USA side of the ISF.

Was your vid boosted or just your w/d rig alone?

there is definitely something going on underneath the hood. I doubt that its getting all its gain from a single 12ax7. It has more then enough gain stock and like mrp5150 said, you hit that sucker with a pedal and its a firebreather!
To be honest with you Im good with the amount of gain it comes with stock.
It just sounds and feels right and that's why I really dig it!!

I agree but at least Im using the money to build my ultimate modded Marshall !!
This amp will also feature little tricks that to my knowledge has not been done before!!
Methinks Mike Fortin in is going to have fun on this project!!!

I will be speaking with Mike hopefully when he comes out to pick his brain, I am keeping my SLP stock and buying another one for Mike to work on depending on his time with his amp line. Now if I score a HW 1959 on the cheap then the SLP gets the knife which could totally screw up everything we talked about

I was hoping it would be just loud enough . I bring an old marshall mg to my gigs for backup and wanted to replace it with the HT-5 for backup .

I guess it depends on how hard your drummer hits!!
With that said, the Vox nightrain or Egnater rebel 20 might be worth looking into!!

I keep my amp pretty close to me at shows , no more than 8 ft away at the most . So maybe it would be ok . Our drummer does hit hard
