These were posted in the Larry amp section here at RT by Sblue and Daniel Travis. I've have always wanted to really hear a Larry Dino in the hands of good players as I the clips on YT leave alot to be desired. We'll here are some links to clips. These definitely sound better than anything I heard on YT.

3...2...1.... Larry amp discussion go.................................................. :D

Maybe Sblue and Dan Travis will comment on their clips here in the main discussion.

That does sound incredible. Would love to hear how these could handle some more brutal metal type riffing.

Maybe this'll help.... One of the best, (IMO), recorded metal tones ever produced. Sure, probably quad-tracked, (and Schaffer's right hand of destruction, and technical prowess), but still...Fuck...

To the best of my knowledge, all Larry...

Sounds angry, full and heavy. Killer.

These clips seem to have a little of everything, crunch, aggression, clarity, a bit compression but not too much, percussive, a tight low end but not brittle or super middy trebley tone. It does have it's own thing going on, I don't really hear nuances of Cameron, Bogner,or anything Fortin has built/copied for that matter, so good on Larry. Since there are quite a few Larry's in the wild why has it taken so long for clips like these to surface?

............ Larry is and has always been very eccentric but he was always one of the most informative and helpful person on Metroamp during the Metro ampbuilding golden years. I do believe his conviction of how his amps sound has been at least somewhat vindicated by these clips.

I know Schaffer Iced Earth has been a Larry player for years but a good producer and studio can make any amp sound good, so for the mortal man I tend to like to hear an amp with a more simple recording. Any amp that sounds great with an I phone or no to little post effects probably will sound good in the room.

I have no dog in the fight and could never afford a Larry..but those clips sound absolutely average to me. You could have told me that is any amp in the world and I would have believed it.

Yeah, I agree. That sounds good, but nothing great. Clips can be very misleading though, and I’m sure it’s a totally different beast in the room.

Sounds great, but, IMO John Petrucci using any amp will sound as good as John Petrucci does. JP on a Larry would be something to behold for sure!

My rig makes any high gain player's hair stand up.too. Your well thought out rig more than likely does also as we care about tone all day and night, well in my case, obsess over high gain. I had a long time friend stop by and play my rig for about 15 minutes yesterday and then he exclaimed he was now going to have to spend some cash GASsing up. He said he could just chug for hours on my rig and couldn't believe the way you could hear every note clearly and there was zero hiss but 100% gain.

I was going to send Larry a deposit on a pre amp before covid hit, I'll wait until next year as he shut down the shop. I spent my cash well, the Boogie stuff is great and has skyrocketed in price since covid so I could sell it all and cover a Larry preamp down the road.

The Iced Earth shit is really good.

Thanks guys!
I really appreciate that!

Hey Maddnotez,
this clip was done by a producer here in Nashville. He re-amped my Larry Dino through his ENGL 4x12.
It might not sound too brutal at first listening, and I wish we had done more of the same re-amping using the other amps we had in there to use them as comparison.
The two amps with by far most clarity were the Wizard Metal 100 and the Dino 922. Dino was the only amp, of all of them, that didn't need an external boost. And it was still, the one with the most saturation and clarity of all of them.

Wow very nice. Tight and punchy at the same time. I like it, hard to describe. Sounds beefy like youd be able to feel it in your chest but still cutting mids.

That sounds killer, and made me listen to the previous clips again. There’s definitely some really cool shit going on. Super tight, yet still meaty, with some really pissed off mids, and great cut in the highs with no harshness. It’s gotta be otherworldly in the room.

I don't mean any disrespect to the Larry amps in the clips, but I actually like a lot of the songs more than the tone itself. Especially the second one. The third clip however had some real good chunk that I like in a lot of my amps. They sound pretty good I just don't think I'd ever deal with the wait and put down the money needed to own one. Especially when there's Mark IV's, 5150's, and Marshall's out there to get me where I want to go.

I posted this to finally share legitimate clips of a Larry Dino since we've all witnessed the dust up here some time ago. We all know how much they cost and how he does that payment system and that's up to Larry how he runs his business.

Would I ever buy one? no, strictly because I couldn't justify the cost and I like all my old Marshalls. But I would venture to say the only amps I've heard with this amount of aggression, clarity, crunchy and low end tightness is either a Wizard MCII or MTL. Alot of people also say the VHT/Fryette Ultralead is in this grouping as well.

I'm an old Marshall guy so what do I know!

Ding...ding...ding...winner. Clips of any particular amp may sound good, or they may sound like ass and likewise they may or may not sound like the amp in the room.

They're fun, but I would never make an amp purchase decision based on any clip.

warhead 78 here on RT used to own the 822 in the clip. We had it next to my MTL/MCII and UL/CLX as well has his Hermannson PA. The Larry is a killer amp for sure, one of the few amps I like as much as Wizards and Fryettes. I would definitely buy one if it weren't for the multi-year wait. The Hermannson was right there as well.

I agree. But, damned if Schaffer's tone don't sound punishing.

Shut down for COVID? He works alone!  This would really piss me off if I was waiting on an amp.

That first clip is James Lugo.

It’s his song. He did let me use it.
This song is really cool, and I love the main riff.
Not to mention that his vocals just freaking kills!!!
