Guess it’s more of an idea cause I never tried to make a prototype or anything. This was a while back that I was thinking of this. Not sure if it would still be of any use to anybody since so many people are using kempers and axefx’s. The idea was to have a midi control box with little servo actuators that you would attach to any of your amps controls like volume, bass , mid, treble or any switch and then with the midi control you could make programs that would respond to a foot controller that would say turn your volume up for a solo or turn the gain up while also turning down the bass or whatever combo you would want. This might have been a killer idea 20 years ago. Anyways what do you guys think? I’m never gonna build one so if anyone wants to take the idea and run with it go ahead.

Yup, the Caswell/Soldano X99..Caswell also had the #39 Marshall ground up build, that also had the motorized controls. 5 or 6K I think.

Not midi but Neil Young's "whizzer", I think it's called, does this.

I did not know that. I was wanting to make it work with any amp though. Kinda like buying a midi foot controller to work with any setup.

Interesting.

How were you planning to attach the actuators to the individual pots?

They would slide onto the shaft that the knobs do but have it to where it would slide all the way back to the face plate so you could just use double sided tape. Maybe also have some pre drilled holes in them just in case some folks wanted to mount them in a more permanent manor. Also have it to where after you slide on the actuators you can put the knobs back on too

Do you have a drawing? What material would grab the shaft and spin it?

It would grab the shaft the same way the knobs do that are already on all amps. No drawings. Just an idea I had.

I´m fairly sure I´ve already seen a prototype of exactly this somewhere pretty recently, it was a bunch of small motors arranged on something like a mic boom.

It would be exorbitantly expensive, but sounds like a more featured version of the whizzer.

Someone already did this. They actually make pots that can be turned by motors to a predetermined position via midi.

Haha! There ya go. That’s basically it. Guess I’m glad I never invested any time in it.

Masotti did it 10 years ago... a 100 watt single channel with motorized pots, MIDI. But i guess it didn't had so much interest.
