Sorry to hear about your little dog. Personally, I can't stand those fucking pitbulls and IMO they should be outlawed everywhere. They are a dumb species and the same usually goes for their owners too but I won't get that far into it.

Sorry, it's unpopular, but I have to agree. Yeah, any dog can bite, but most dogs can't do the kind of damage that a pitbull can do.

Hope your dog is OK Ed.

Ed, I'm sorry to hear that. I had the same thing happen to a poodle of ours years ago. My mother-in-law took him for a walk to visit a friend near our house and some tool, who's wife was in the hospital giving birth, let his Rottweiler run free in the house. Normally not an issue but in this case, because the wife was afraid of the dog, he'd lock it up in the basement. He sniffs my dog across the street and flies through the screen door. How that dog didn't kill mine is amazing. Somehow the owner managed to get his dog back in the house and I had to pick mine up bleeding like a stuck pig. He hand a punctured lung and tons of bites. I made the guy pick up the vet bills. My dog spent a week in the hospital. It cost the dude over $3000. He told me his wife demanded he get rid of the dog before she came home with the baby.

Hope your little guy is OK.

So sorry to hear about your dog Ed. I own a chihuahua/dauchsund and our neighbor has a pitbull. I'm terrified he'll attack our dog when the kids are out walking him.
I hope your pup is OK.

Ed , Sorry to hear this ..I hope your lil pooch recovers fully and your hand is ok . I have a yorkie and always worry about that happening .
My girlfriend has a beautiful German Shepherd and Has schooled him and walks him with a prong collar etc. Everytime she walks him he gets charged by different dogs that are not on leashes . She has to scream at these dog owners . People are so irresponsible when it comes to their dogs .
Take care
JB

sometimes I'm amazed that pittbulls are still legal. I know that training and environment has alot to do with any dog's disposition but dog's also have instincts...Pittbulls are a FIGHTING breed of dog....not saying that they'll always be vicious but they're definetly predisposed to it...

sorry to hear about your dog, Ed...i have a pooch too (28 pound sheltie/eskimo mix)...

Sorry Ed. Sometime people suck! Pit Bulls are outlawed here. Some of the folks that owned them should have been outlawed too.
Best of luck to your little dog, poor thing must have been terrified.
Fucking people

Mark

which is a completely insane law. we had to get rid of our aussie shepherd when we had our baby. in any case, i've talked and worked with alot of trainers, ANY dog can bite. I know a teacup terrier that grabbed onto a babies face.

ed, i'm sending good vibes to the dog, and good vibes to you. its tough for people to not blame the dog, but blame the owner when stuff like this happens.. so hats off to you.

people need to remember, a dog will only do what the owners let them do.

You should come to my town where the average IQ of SOME pitbull owners is about 3. Potential owners of any pet should be given a test before being allowed to adopt. It's a responsibility.
Come to town on a summer day where you can watch the dudes walking their out of control pitbulls(grandfathered law), a boa or python around their neck and their kids in the custody of the Children's Aid Society...brilliant no job dope selling buggars.
I totally agree, it's not the animals but the owner.

I'm sorry to hear that man. I have a 7 lb Yorkie. I would persue legal action against them if at all possible.
I'm waiting until tomorrow to see how mine is doing after surgery. Thing is I don't fault the pit for flying across the 1 foot fence, I fault the owner for leaving the pit in an unsecured yard like this.
Yup, thats straight up NEgligence as I see it.. Hope the little girl is OK....

Damn, sorry to hear this. Take the owner of the pit bull to small claims, get your money back and then some? Not sure if this would work? Can you find out the owner?

Hope your dog is ok. As a very young child, my first dog was a chihuahua.
I know who the owner is, his dad owns the gas station I buy my gas at. I'm gonna give him the option to be a stand up guy, we'll see whether he takes it.

So sorry to hear about your dog and hope she's alright. What you said above is definitely the
best course of action. Best of luck.

Sorry to hear about that Ed, your a good man to take on that Pit to save your dog.

Yes the Pit was bred for the ring, it's main function being it has terrier in it is to be a ratter and never back down. You will see judges placing a small terrier in front of a huge dog and that terrier shold not back down an inch. Other dogs though have been trained and bred to be a more gentle like the Mastif, it is a dog of war and the protector of the king's game wardon. They are now very calm and great dogs to own.

I say this because it is the stupid lazy human that bought the dog and has not trained the dog or showed it that it is not the alpha, humans are. Yes due to stupid humans not capable of controlling a dog or ensuring it will not get out Pits need to have stronger laws to protect people from the stupid people.

so sorry man. Hope the little girl gets better, she's a cutie.

post pics of her recovery for us

Sorry you are going through this...here's to a speedy recovery!

As for Pit Bulls, it amazes me how much ignorance there is out there regarding the breed. Unless a person has worked with them and researched them beyond what is typically seen in the media, then giving your opinion is worthless. They are highly intelligent dogs that are perhaps the most eager to do what their owners wish. Yes, they possess powerful bites and are naturally protective, but this describes many other breeds as well.

The problem is not the dogs, its the owners...much the same as guns. When there are laws that ban Pit Bulls, there are many other "tough" breeds that can step right in and are actually more dangerous to humans (Pit Bulls were bred to fight other dogs...there are many breeds that were created as man-stoppers that are much more dangerous). We need regulations around ownership, not bans of certain species.

That's some BS right there and I hope the guy does the right thing and pays for the medical bills.

I have an idiot living about a block away from me who has a pit and you can tell that he trains the thing to be aggressive. The guy is all steroided out to!!(he is pretty big)The idiot has a small chain fence in his front yard and he has rope with a knot on the end of it tied up to a tree branch in his front yard. The rope is about 6 to 8ft from the ground and everytime I either drive by or walk by you can see him out with the dog and he gets the dog all riled up and the dog jumps 6-8ft in the air bites the rope and hangs there for like 10-15 minutes lol! The dog wont even let go when the owner commands him to which tells me if that thing gets out, someone might get hurt. Needless to say, The neighbors on that block are less then happy.

I hope the guy steps up and does the right thing. That's all I'll say for now. Just reading this post made me furious.

Wow, that sucks. Hope your dog recovers. I have small kids and this sort of scenario scares the crap out of me.

I pack heat when I'm out with my kids and I wouldn't hesitate to put a dog down if it attacked my kids.

I don't care how intelligent anyone thinks they are, they are pieces of shit in my book and don't belong in residential neighborhoods.

Exactly! My mother in law got a pit and now my kids dont visit Nana unless she comes to us minus the dog. My wife was on very supportive of my feelings about that. To be honest we both couldnt figure out why my mother in law would get a pit.

Intelligent? Relative to what? Dogs are dogs and while some maybe smarter than others, I haven't seen any take an SAT. They're animals. Pits happen to be prone to aggression. They are dangerous because you can't predict what they'll do. You can't tell what any dog is feeling at any given time but if a Pit loses it, people get hurt. Yes, people are assholes and there is a certain "type" that gravitate towards Pits. Looks like God gave asshole humans an asshole dog. And don't get me started on gun control. I don't even think people over 68 should drive. They should at least make them take annual driving tests after 65.

So ban the other "tough" breeds too. Apparently too many owners of dangerous dogs aren't willing to be responsible. And there's nothing in the Constitution about the right to bear dogs. And I'm not some animal hater or anything. Hell, I took in a stray Rottweiler that somebody dumped out here. But you have to draw lines.

the right to bear dogs...LOL

I know this is a serious thread, but that made me chuckle =D
