I hate it when buying/selling gear when...

I've been selling some stuff lately. I'm absolutely sick of people asking question after question(over a period of days) and then shoot me a lowball offer.

For example, I have a guitar listed on a FB musicians group for $350 shipped plus Paypal fees.

This guy asked me for more pics requesting certain angles... not a problem.

Guy asks me 10 different questions about condition, mods, etc... not a problem.

Offers me $175 via Paypal gift shipped... I didn't even respond.

Another guy did the same thing to me last week... I responded to 15 different emails oh his over 3 days. We verified pricing, how I would ship, went over references... then he offered me $200 for the guitar.

Clowns!!!!

What drives you nuts when buying/selling?
 
Selling gear these days is like walking through the shower at the gym. You can't avoid the dicks.

I've had it happen with a particular member on this board.
 
I had a mint condition ivory EVH 5150 100w on eBay with a BIN for $1100. A guy offered me $400, which I immediately declined and didn't counter. Then he tried $500. Then $600. I told him I wasn't selling to him and to leave me alone. His username was something like "Pristine Items" or something that suggested he was a flipper. Sold it for $1000 locally and met the buyer at a gas station.
 
The low ball offers are outrageous these days. I really thought the used amp market would turn around by now, certainly not to the glory days but at least reasonable. Someone just offered me dirt on reverb.com for a head, I just took it down. At this point I am just looking for trades.
 
I don't think the used amp market will ever get real good. There's just too much out there these days and lots of folks who really need the money. I have a good buddy who has such a killer JCM800, which he swore he'd never part with. Well, he lost his job, which was already low-paying. I helped him get another job within six weeks, but it paid half of what they said it'd pay (base + commission). After eight mos. of that job, he had to take a roommate and start putting gear on CL. Now he's back in a great job in the musical inst. business, so he's fine. But lots of folks are in worse shape. And there are at least 10 great clones or reissues out there for every original or vintage "holy grail" amp.
 
There are a lot of clowns out there. I don't let it bug me, it's just not a huge deal to get low ball offers and answer a few questions. Sometimes, you never know. I had a guy comeback and actually pay asking price for something weeks after kicking the tires over and over.
 
The flip side of getting lowball offers is someone who watches the ad for months and then contacts you the day after you took a lowball offer and says he finally has the cash and is ready to buy. Man, that was painful. I took a lowball on a Soldano Decatone, had to ship it cross country and, on the day I was packing it up, a guy from CL did just that. He lived 10 min. away. I lost almost $400 by sticking to the original deal and worried about it getting damaged in shipping every day. Then that buyer flipped it a month later.

I sold 12 items on reverb in the past month, i got tired of trying to sell stuff on the forums and always lowball offers or bumping threads. I was shocked how quick my stuff sold because some of it i had listed on the boards for less money for months and nobody wanted it. Most of the stuff i recently sold went quick, i would list 3 or 4 items a week and some sold the same day. Im just glad i got rid of everything.
 
What bother/scares me the most is the potentiality of selling something that is cherry, only to have the dick-hole buyer scam the shit out of me...or I buy something that's ad'd as cherry only it's been fucked many times over.

Seems to be lots of great gear at good prices,,,but learning who can be trusted is much of a chore man.
 
Just have firm / non negotiable prices ;)

I hear what you are saying, why I stopped selling on eBay. Too many tire kickers with no intention of buying. Then you have the ass hats who fail reading comprehension 101. I don't ship internationally and mention it plain as day yet I alwasy get "hey man, how much to ship to xx country (not part of the USA). Then buyers who are douchbags who know you like your 100% positive feedback and make up shit to get a price reduction.

I plan on selling again but I'll go to reverb instead of eBay and classifieds..just have too much stuff I no n nonger need or use.
 
Devil's Advocate:

People list used gear at unreasonable prices. For example, I just bought a used guitar. I first shopped around at retailers for a new one. And was quoted $2,750 shipped. Whereas, people are listing the same guitar—used—for MSRP, which is $3200 and change. And when I made an offer that is reasonable for a USED guitar, they freaked because they thought I was low-balling them, when in reality, they just don't understand that nobody wants to pay MORE for a used guitar when a NEW one is cheaper.

One guy told me he paid $4K for it and would in no way ever sell it for less than 3K. Dude... it's not my fault you got ripped off. Nobody is going to buy a $2400 guitar for $4K...

Oh man, there are a few RUTHLESS lowballers on her!!!! I mean crazy lowball offers, or even worse, when they try to insist to you that your guitar is not worth close to your asking price. That is the worst!
 
This is why I like Reverb. For a 3% fee, I don't have to deal with lowball offers - just decline them!
And, the items usually sell quick if priced right.

Oh man I dropped ebay a few years ago, it is the worst.
 
How about this one, when you talk to someone and the item you are selling is the item they have been chasing for literally years, and they tell you they have less than your asking price, but that is the guitar/amp they have lusted after for many years and this is there one chance to get it. So, you feel bad for them and you sell for less than your asking price to help a fellow forum member out. After all, they have been trying to get it for years. So you take a hit and sell it to help them out. Then a day after they receive it, you see they listed it on another site for hundreds higher than your original asking price!!! That sucks!! Turns out the entire time the guy was blowing smoke up your ass trying to get you to lower your price anyway he can including acts of subterfuge!
 
Best one I heard on Craigslist.... Hey I definitely want to buy your BE100! Would you take $1500 cash? I can pay you as soon as I sell my Marshall MG half stack for $700! :lol: :LOL:
