Ao on the recommendation of a fellow RTer, I ordered a Swart Night Light attenuator -- Lemme tellya, this thing is a-MAZ-ing! (Pun fully intended. But seriously. Yeah.)

Now that I have complete control over the overall output level of the amp, I can truly appreciate the richness of the tone! :inlove:

My Fireball od even sounds worlds better out front as a boost, now that I don't have to choke the life out of the thing with the master volume all the way down. :D

Clips to follow, of course, but right now I just can't stop smilin'...

Good to hear you found a way to make it work for you. Can't wait to hear the clips!

the z's i've played have always had something just not right to my ears... but it was years ago that i really sat with them. I want to get back to them again.

Yup love that Night Light attenuator with my Bogner. Just sounds better with it even when not needed.

I was reading your adventures with the Z over at HC, very cool you got it where you want it now!

Very cool you got it working for you. Now get us some clips. :D

Werd. I have to get finished with final grading for this semester, but clispeses will be inevitable. :D

It's definitely a different sound ~ and more importantly, a different *feel* ~ than I've ever been used to. In some ways, the amp is more difficult to play than my other amps ... Perhaps that's what folks mean when they say an amp is "unforgiving" and "won't hide one's mistakes"?

Tone-wise, now that I've got the volume under control, I'm digging what I'm hearing. It's like, now I can hear the *amp*, instead of just hearing LOUD! ;)

Was it you who recommended it from using it with your Duende? I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH, brutha!  It's like a little box of PURE MAGIC, that thang is. And yeah, even on the least-attenuated setting, that comp feature is just lovely!

Werd, fellas. I'm SO glad I didn't flake & sell this thing too soon, just 'cuz I didn't gel with it instantaneously. Lesson learned...lol...

Natch! :D

glad to hear it finally happened! Even if it took an attenuator :scared:

One of the reasons it took so long was that, from what everybody said, I was really leary of attenuators! But when I started reading up on the Swart, and then saw the price, I thought, "Well, this just *might* do the trick ... If it doesn't, I'm out a couple of bills, but if it might, that's worth the risk." SOOO glad I took that risk!

There is a *slight* loss of tone/feel at the maximum-attenuation setting on the Night Light, but at that level, damn, the amp's just about whisper quiet, and the basic tone is still there. And at the middle & minimum attenuation levels, it's just pure, sexy WIN! :)

I don't have any experience with Hotplates or Webers, but I'd recommend this magic box to anybody, honestly.

Yea I had to go look that up. Glad you are liking it. At that price it is a no brainer, and if you diddn't like it I'm sure you could dump it on tgp real fast and get your money back.

Aloha, Rob.

Good to read that you are digging the amp. You put some effort into it instead of just giving it a quick test and flipping it when it didn't work out at first.

I'm looking forward to the clips -- you have me interested in the swart attenuator. It would be great if you did the clips in the same fashion as your earlier comparison clips.

What I'm thinking I'll do, once I get finished with this semester's grading :aww: ... is record one clip that shows the amp at full volume, and then at each stage of attenuation, so y'all can see just how much the Swart can tame the overall volume, and then record separate clips of full volume & attenuated levels that are volume-matched so y'all can compare the tone of the amp by itself with the attenuated tones at the same volume levels.

Welp, no new clips yet, but I thought I'd mention that, now that I've got the Swart attenuator running, I feel like I'm finally able to start learning the amp ~ what it can do & how it likes to do it. :) Before, all I could hear was LOUD!

So I *definitely* hear a MUCH bigger difference between my two main guitars through this amp, & that's very cool! The simpler circuit does, I think, a better job of communicating the nuances of each instrument. A slight down-side to that is the challenge of finding eq settings that work well with both axes, so I can quickly switch back & forth. But it's cool to be able to switch guitars & get a whole different feel & tonality. Not used to that. ;)

Thus far, the more time I spend with the Z, the more I like it. And the more I discover that it's got its own thang goin' on. It's not Voxy. It's not Marshally. :dunno: It's just kinda

That's all for now. Clispeses soon.... :gethim:
