I just had a strange Craigslist listing encounter!

I REFUSE to have people come over to my house. I'll always meet in a public place.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FR1NicZYygw

This happened VERY close to where I live, I don't know if anyone here has heard of this but this isn't the first time something like this has happened.

If someone is too rigid and won't meet me in a public place I pass on any deal. Just my .02 cents

Cheers.

There are plenty of undesirables out there that use these Craigslist/Kijiji ads to case out the joint. Invite someone over, the deal goes well but all is not well. A week later, you get robbed. I hate to say it, but inviting strangers over in this fashion is almost asking for it.

I've never had a problem and often have CL buyers over to try stuff out. I've done gun deals with strangers at my house and theirs. Never a problem. You can usually tell if someone is on the up and up with a simple phone call. I tend to sell specialized or customized stuff that you can't fake your way around. Call up about my 1979 Marshall JMP 2203 for sale and not sound like you have any clue as to what you're talking about, and we're not gonna meet.

I have people come to me at my house all the time. Never had an issue. That way when they flake, I'm not wasting my time going to meet up somewhere. I also go to other people's houses when buying stuff and never felt like it was unsafe. Of course I carry a 9mm. lol

I have people come over all the time too for gear and pistols and never had an issue.

You can tell if some is an idiot based on their email responses usually.

This world is just full of overly paranoid people these days. I’m going to hate to see how the next generation turns out. They’ll be too scared to even leave the house.

Man, some funny shit here. I usually meet up at a gas station, or GC parking lot. I've done a couple deals with RTers and had them stop here..but usually it's a public spot. I'll say that some of the dudes I've bought/traded with, random craigslist ads I swear some of them stepped right off the set of Deliverance. Never had any issues though.

I posted an ad for a guitar and it didn't sell so I took the ad down and parted the guitar out on Reverb. Some guy emailed me today saying he might be interested in looking at it. I double checked to make sure all the ads were down and emailed him back. He wasn't happy and blamed working all the time for the delay in replying to my ad.

Here's part of our exchange - Now that's some funny shit, you can't make it up!

I’m interested and have been. I work a lot of hours and can’t just drop what I’m doing to go see a guitar

After being on
eBay, Reverb, every local craigslist and not getting any
interest I decided to part it out on Reverb. I double
checked to see that I had deleted it from CL, thanks for
your interest.

all according to plan.

Inappropriate response from seller. You couldn't agree, leave it at that.

I've had a few people from CL come to my house, mostly because I'm lazy and not a delivery service. Probably should be more careful but met some cool people and had no issues. Can definitely understand why someone would say absolutely not my house.

Oh well you snooze you lose.

I had an item I had to refund because like many I had it listed 10 places. Forgot to delete it from reverb and someone bought it after it already sold elsewhere.

My mistake and I felt bad but shit happens.

I usually like to at least talk to people on the phone to gauge their personality and get sense if there are any red flags.
I'm the same and if anything I try to be more polite and friendlier than normal and give them a heads up of my description before we meet in public. I'm a big ugly knuckle dragging looking kind of guy and worry the seller might take off if I start walking towards them.

I just avoid craigslist. Too many damn weirdo's out there!

In all seriousness, the seller was right to back out. Should not have spazzed out on you though.

The Last time i did a Craigslist transaction where i went to the sellers home, The Dude answered the door naked & soaking wet. The Homeowner & his wife had sent the kids out for the evening and were "Playing" in the pool. The seller completely forgot that i was coming over. I ended up not buying the pedal he had for sale it wasn't as described in the ad.

Agreed...But I still hooked up with Mailman Dan. And he agreed to meet with me.
Birds of a feather,I guess.

You're lucky he didn't snatch you up, drill a hole in your head and make you his sex zombie.
I did bring the cordless drill. Was in my trunk.

Could have been worse dude. If he would have shown up holding a small white dog named precious and swaying back and forth in a kimono in full "skin suit"......well, let's just say a tube rebias would have been the least of your worries......

:D

I'd meet up at a Guitar Center as well. Greet in the parking lot, then go inside and check out some amps while you're looking over the guitar. Something tells me the GC employees would be more hopeful that you're going to buy one of those amps than they would be caring about a private sale, which they wouldn't even know were occurring to begin with. Even if you're not even considering a new amp, you know it always becomes a possibility when you plug into something you haven't before, or see something used for a killer price, so it's not even completely bullshit!

As for the house thing, I'm protective enough with my fiancee and dog, never mind adding a newborn to that. The dude was selling the guitar to help with his finances, just putting myself in those shoes for a second makes my stomach flop. Guy is having a kid and one of the first things he's got to do is sell off gear to help with money? I'd feel pretty defeated and stressed. I never understand why people have kids when they can't afford them. Same goes for people who have pets and can barely afford to feed the kids they could stop themselves from having before they should have.

I definitely do all CL business in public busy parking lots. And I have done alot of local buying and selling on there. About 10 years ago I would let someone come to my building. and meet downstairs. But It's just too sketchy now. I used to have a practice room at a coffee house upstairs. I would do sales there but I could meet them out front first, so I had a chance to get a read on them before hand. This one dude pissed me off once. I was selling an 89' Epiphone LP just because I needed the money, These Epiphones were really good , and I actually had it refretted and it had a BK Mule in the bridge. So this dude shows up to look at it and starts saying there is a crack near the headstock. I was like dude " what are you talking about?" And I was insulted already , big time. But luckily next door to this room was a guitar teacher and part owner of a local guitar shop. So I told this dork to come with me and lets have this expert look at it. Sure enough he looks at it and no crack. Then the guy still doesn't buy the guitar. A week later he calls back and I enc up selling it to him. And he was in a band with my friend and I heard the dork knocked the guitar over and broke the headstock. That's Karma, don't waste my time. hahahahhahahhahahhahahhhahah.
