I hear the JCA20H sounds exactly like a SLO and they are only $299. WTF?

...or the W/D/W rig from 3rd Power?

er, maybe that was a TGP amp?

;)

knockout, don't take the comments around here personally...even if they are intentional. it's all fun, not serious...except for the left-wing pinko socialists commies and islamofascist apologists in off topic, they are truly humorless and serious.

IMO/YMMV

Yeah, bro, dont worry about us being obnoxious. Thats why we are on here and not TGP

Seriously though, the SLO is just a great kick ass amp with really strong upper mids. Used, I find them to be a bit more expensive then the xtc and a bit less then the VH4. They do seem to sell fast though. Much faster then the xtc or VH4.

Owned 2 SLO amps and a Soldano/Caswell.....
No thanks on either. Big mistakes to me, and not even close to worth the price tag.
A cranked SLO has it's own tone, but nothing many other lesser priced amps can't do.
I am truly shocked at the prices that these simple circuits still sell for.
But there is an ASS for every seat I guess

Oh we so disagree.

25 years with no major changes - still selling. Not sure what other amp can say that. And I've never played another amp that sounds like a SLO - similar - but not really. ;) There must be a lot of seats out there. Or asses. I quess it's how you look at it.

The SLO is unique in its voicing. Just like a Marshall or Fender or Mesa. Unlike the Big 3, Mike doesn't cater to the masses. It's still a small shop with 3 or 4 people and Mikes or Bill's DNA in every amp. Nothing mass produced and no changes to the amp in 25 years. That, is timeless, and that adds value and it limits the marketing aspects of the amp. To get the goods out of the SLO, you got to man up and it isn't for the bedroom for damn sure. The SLO just starts to stretch its legs on the OD channel with the gain at 6.5 and the OD master around 6. Where others mostly fall to pieces at these levels, the SLO is just waking up, as are your wife, kids and neighbors....

This thread is pretty fucking stupid and not the way to showcase a legendary amp. Just goes to show ignorance and immaturity.

I am mostrly into thrash and I don't think those guys are into these amps too much.

Yeah, not a Trash amp. But I don't see them as more expensive that Diezels and Bogners. A new VH4 is about $4,500 I think. Herbert $4,200? Ubershall $3,500? SLO is about $3,500 as well. No idea about Oz dollars though. They are worth giving a listen if you get a chance, but it doesn't seem like it would fit your style.
Oz dollar is strong ATM, $1.08 against the US$. A US$2500 used SLO + $500 shipping to OZ converts to AU$2777. Times are good here for buying ATM.

I feel like I should go on an off road forum and ask WTF about mudders

If it's good enough for Warren Haynes (even though he is with PRS now), it's good enough for anyone.

the SLO volume & power will blow that thin skin right off your angry bones

I don't think I've ever been in the same room with anything by Soldano. :aww:
