I listened to this album when it came out and I honestly don't think I've ever heard better solid state high gain tone.

Actually, to me this album pretty much sets the benchmark for it.

I agree. The tone on Sonixc Excess is huge, Those palm mutes sound so crushing.

I played a borrowed Randall solid state for a summer of gigs once and was into it. I want to say it was an RH200 or something? I really don't know shit about Randalls. I remember it having some quirks and could be made to sound like total ass, but had a couple nice spots on the dials. I ran VH140Cs for awhile and loved those, but they always had issues for me.

My Ampeg VH140 is the sickest SS I've ever played. Brutal and thick. I love it.
