I miss the 80's

Back then there were less avenues for personal entertainment, you couldn't sit at home and distract yourself as easily as you can now. So going out to see a show seemed like it meant more back then, don't know if that's just my rose colored glasses kicking in or not.

Now music seems more like a background layered underneath all the other forms of entertainment, most of which you can do from the comfort of your own home.

Coincidentally, I almost said the same thing in my previous post about music mostly being background noise nowadays. It's not just you.

Although the 80s were the best of times for me also. Im pretty sure I wouldnt survive them again. I barely made it out alive the last time.

Has anyone been to check out Steel Panther??

I have seen some YouTube clips, 1 or 2 at the Key Club and they are pretty funny and having a good time. They seem to want to bring some of the 80's metal back. It also looks like people dig it!

Comments?? Just curious...

How many of these threads do we really need?

It depends. How many times are you going to know what the thread's about and still click on it? I'm pretty sure that's the key here.

+1000

I preferred the stuff from the late '70s. It was all good through the early '80s. By the time the mid '80s rolled around it all turned to crap.

I don't miss the 80s one bit. I thought I would, but this whole resurgence makes me cringe.

I do miss the hot 80s chics - though I don't miss all their aquanet and their tight-pants' yeast infections.

I hate to be cliche but I haven't had a gig in the last 18 years or so that came close to the fun and madness of the late 80's early 90's gigs. The players, the venues, the crowds. Sorry its just not the same. It's really too bad. I don't miss the music so much as the experience. :aww: :aww:

Although I do still enjoy much of the rock music between the late 70s to mid 80s, you hit the nail on the head.

Im with you guys. 70's and 80's hard rock is my thing and in the 80's , going to see bands was a regular occurence whether they were known or not. The difference was ( as mentioned above) that regardless if the band was great or not, you still had a blast due to the scene and vibe of the times. You were guaranteed to run into alot of the same people and it was a blast.

We still have the music its just a bit different without everything else that came along with it...

Heres a theory 70's and early.mid 80's were awesome and an extesion growth of the late 60's-- but.. at some point it got so 'stupid' ie:poser shallow etc. that there was a 'conscious' backlash ie: cure rem etc. book learning stuff sensitive and educated Here is where the vibe gets killed

Part of the identity of the reaction to late80's rock is about the fans feeling 'above' the idiocy of hair rock etc. This moved into alt and now hipster scences where the preoccupation is in how am I different weird smart special and superior therefore cooler then everyone else winning the contest as opposed to late 70' early 80's where we were all into similar things and if someone is cool it did not come from being different it was from being the awesomest in a more together way...

Certianly I remember attitude from both eras but there is a different snobery now that discludes instead of includes... its a less fun vibe

I did a bad job of typing that

and don't get me wrong I love the music from all sides its the social behavior that took a dive
