What I really want is the G12-80 with the '444 bass cones' but these are nearly impossible to find listed as such. Is there a modern clone that sounds similar?

Mine aren't for sale, but they rock, cab is rated at 320 watts, big firm bottom excellent midz & top end as well.

Have you tried Scumback speakers?

I have not tried anything honestly. I live in a place with no guitar equipment within 200 miles. I'll have to order something and try it when i get it.

That cab is sexy! I would like it ;)

For reference the crunch I want to achieve is Scott Ian's early 80s tone.

To my knowledge, G12-80 w/444 have never been cloned. As awesome as they are, they were in production for a very short time so not much opportunity for them to get as popular as others. Eric Johnson and Anthrax are the biggest names to make recordings with these.

The closest would be to get a Mesa C90 and have it reconed with a 444 cone. But I don't think that will be enough to give it the extremely angry midrange bark the originals have. Mesa C90s stock have the 1777 cone.

Absolute best bet is to keep checking Ebay.

Aww. That sucks! So yeah I guess I'll be looking for one of those old early 80s Marshall cabs. This does make me sad though.

Here's a clip of that cab w/a JMP 2203.....

OMFG that is the cruch I want. My Mesa Recto cab w/v30s is not making me so happy anymore. I have had it for about 8 years though. Why does it have to be I want something I cannot get easily!

I do! That is the exact tone I want. I figure those speakers will do well with my 78 JMP 2204. Now I am on the hunt.

The part I like the best is that solid thud when you chug on power chords. Its not a modern type bassy boom, but rather something more dense.
Thanks for the information fellas!

So what is the significance of the screen port in the middle of the magnet on these speakers?
I know my BL80's also have this. What does it do?

Do they get hot otherwise? Never heard of that...
Maybe it acts like the holes do in ported cabs(?).....dunno.

Aw man, you guys are not helping this at all. I didn't think everyone would like them quite that much. Ebay it is!
