I picked up an EMG 57

I'm diggin' it. It made my tone meaty and more defined, but it's not shrinkingly bright for leads.

Here's a quick 1 take through my Trainwreck.

How's the output on the 57? EMGs website doesn't have the specs of this pickup listed. I've been a long-time EMG 81/85 player, and have been looking at the options for passive pickups, or maybe active pickups that sound more "open". I was looking at Motor City and Bareknuckle's offerings, but having never tried them, and not knowing anyone locally that has some, it's a shot in the dark.

I'm not to fond of the stock '57 Classics, and want more output. I've always done the selectable 18v mod on my EMGs, and I like them, but just looking for a pickup that cleans up more evenly and has more "complexity" to the tone.

If you don't mind, how would you stack up EMGs 57s against what pickups you've played before? Is there a reason (other than low noise) to switch to EMGs instead of some passive '57s?
 
The EMG site does have the specs listed. Look up the installation instructions the specs are there. Looks like the output is the same as all other offerings except for the X series.

IMO Duncan actives sound so much better and more organic than EMG. But I am also the type of guy who plays metal and stays away from actives all together fwiw.
 
Nice tone and definition.
I like the definition and balance in EMGs. I listen to Jeff Loomis a lot who gets excellent definition and a perfect natural sound in bass strings (and all-around great balance/definition). Also listen to KKDowning and GTipton who use EMGs.
It's just about impossible to shop for pickups (and never sure of what you're going to get). The people who play these things on manufacturer websites and youtube are inept at demonstrating them. ie. Guy will show a Seymour Duncan, Dimarzio, etc. and run through a few notes in the Country Scale in one or two positions on the neck or something. (Same thing goes for effects pedals.)

 
These have plenty of output, and are on the brighter side. That said, I'm running less gain to get the same harmonic spread along with a small bump up in the low end EQ to get the feel I was used to. My amp cleans up even better with the lower gain setting.

I'm ready to try the 66 to see how the complete set works together.
 
What are settings on your amp and what amp?
Any effects? Lots of sustain at the end.
 
I'm plugged straight into an Express with the gain half way.
