I have had RFT's for a while and use them in the V1 of my Engl Savage 120's and they are insane in that amp...

But yesterday I decided to put one in my JVM 210H and that amp came up like 10 notches...

The notes were so much bigger and alot more warmth and clairity and gave the amp more of that Marshall tone that your used to hearing from back in the day... The stock preamp tubes are no comparison at all from what I was hearing.

It gave me a whole new respect for that amp which IMO is a pretty kick ass amp

RFT's are the only preamp tube that really made me say wow.

I've tried JJ's, Sovtek, EH, and various Chinese preamp tubes.

while there is a difference between them it is very subtle to me.

The RFT's on the other hand have a huge impact on the tone of your amp
at least this is my experience with them.

I use the RFT in my Engl Savage and I am very happy with it
I think they work best in brighter voiced amps probably not the best tube choice in a darker voiced amp

The down side of the RFT's is the price they are a bit more expensive than your average tube.

How are you Olaf?
Hi Scott, I'm very fine, thanks, well relaxed from three weeks on french beaches (Brittany - as always) with the girls learning to surf while I've built some castles in the sand with my son. Weather was nice (its never super hot, you know).
We are thinking about to buy a house there - not only for vacation but also for the time after retirement, which for me isn't too far away :D Just 18 more years.

I hope you and yours are well too my friend !!!

Excuse me but did you say you blew your boy Butters?

Reminds me of the old joke.

1; Hey, did you blow bubbles as a kid?
2; Yeah, so?
1; So he's back in town and wants your number.

RFT = Radio-Funk-Technik - Kombinat - former GDR (east german) manufacturer of lots of cool tubes, incl. ECC83, ECC81 and those dimple-topped EL34s US guys call "Siemens" (who never produced EL34 themselves) . . . anyway:

Did you just change V1, or others too?

I put a RFT in the v1 position in my Blackmore and it made a HUGE difference!
