I think I got it…PS-2A isn’t working well for me

PS-2A is getting weird artifacts at low volume with my Blankenship plexi :( So it’s going back. Guess I’ll stick with the Ho - just won’t crank the amp past 7 - which is whats worked for the last 20 years lol MIGHT try that new Boss Waza, but will have to get over this disappointment 1st hah

edit - so when switches are set to flat, it sounds great - but seems dark to me, but I can fix that with the amp settings. But definitely gonna record the amp with no attenuation so I can get a real comparison on what’s happening with the tone change that I THINK i’m hearing. either way, gonna keep it cause I can make it work with switches set to flat

What kind of weird artifacts? Are you sure the Fryette isn’t simply accurately reproducing weird things your amp is doing that you couldn’t previously hear?

Those Fryette reampers get pretty much universally glowing reviews from everybody the industry who uses them.

I was just using mine with a plexi type amp today at fairly low volume. Sounded fine. What were you hearing?

some weird slight woosh on the high end. i have another plexi to try, gonna see what that does

Mine works great other than not going completely silent with volume on zero. Sounds like that is normal. Matching levels and bypassed vs not bypassed sound the same. My switches are all set to off.
 
That woosh is more or less a common plexi thing once you crank it high enough, I think it has to do with the power filtering and I have had two 50-watters that had it big-time once you get it up to those levels. Google "Marshall plexi swirl" and see if it feels familiar. I´m thinking you maybe haven´t cranked it that friggin´ loud before and just never encountered it?

i dont get the swirl with the ho attenuator. i have had the amp cranked and recorded with no attenuator, it wasnt there then, but that was a few years ago. might have to just rent a room to do some recording with no attenuator to make sure it’s not the amp

I find with my non master Marshall amps the PS2 sounds best with the switches in the middle when I’ve got the volume less than half. IIRC Fryette says that the middle position is the best approximation of the real response of the amp when attenuated a fair amount.
 
Fwiw I've used the power station with two different 1959s and neither did anything with the power station that they didn't also do when just cranked up on their own.

What artifacts? Mine all sound the same, bypassed or not. Those mini switches sound like shit in any position other than both off.

One thing to remember is it is not an attenuator. Its a load / power amp. When you turn up the volume on the power station, at some point it’s power section will distort and color the sound. Whether or not you like that is up to you.

I can set my amps to playing volume, match the level with the Power Station and go back and forth and there is no difference. NMV Marshall, Wizard, Hiwatt they all work. Both switches to off and pres and depth off.
