Keep hearing the tone of that Trainwreck clone I played Saturday - that thing was awesome. Now just gotta figure out how to get one! Not enough money to buy one, not enough time to build one  !

I feel your pain, I want a Ceriatone T-Wreck clone really bad.

Nope, just one a guy built - I'm trying to locate him to get some more info. His name is Carl and he is on some forums. I thought he would be easy to find, but he isn't.

Did it have EL34's or 6v6's in the power section?

Hey, whats up Josh and Darren. I believe the Carl you are talking about does amp repairs for Tone Merchants. He is in Whittier. I don't know if he has a shop or works out of the house.

I'm not sure, I was directed to call Noel at Tone Merchant's so I'm on the right path

He's does work out of his house, but frequents Tone Merchants as the picking-up and dropping-off point. If anyone wants to get in contact with Carl, call Noel at TM... he has Carl's number.

If it's the amp I'm thinking of, it was a Ceriatone kit and he replaced the OT and one other thing (forget what it was).

If it was Carl's it is a Ceriatone kit. He sent me pics of it after he worked on my PeaceMaker...

It was probably the Power Transformer.

Why do you say that? The OT is gonna have more impact on tone, no?

The Dumble clone was definitely a Ceriatone with different transformers. I thought Carl said he pieced together the Trainwreck - I'll find out for sure  !

You weren't drinking so I'll go with your recollection.

Most people swap them out if the PT isn't dishing out a B+ between 375 and 390 on the plates of the power tubes. It's more of a power thing. An Express is about a 35 or 36 watt amp. If you increase the B+, you're going to get more power and headroom. Increased headroom will have a direct effect on how the amp behaves and sounds. People want to try to get them as close to the originals as possible.

I know all about PTs, but in a new amp, I wouldn't see why the PT wouldn't be operating and spec'd right...
