I'm not really sure what's goin on but when I play with this pickup, if i do some quick stops and starts there's some mad loud high pitched feedback inbetween the stops and starts. Even if i just leave it on the pickup, with both my hands muting the neck and the bridge, massive feedback. I've tried different amps and guitars and i'm 100% sure it's THIS pickup that's mucked! When I'm holding down the strings at the neck and at the bridge to mute everything, the feedback's there, when i put my finger on one of the metal pole pieces of the pickup, it's quiet like it should be.

So.....what's the diagnosis guys?

Get it re-potted. Could be a ground issue too though.

New guitar pots are about $10, you could take the old one out and solder the new one in yourself..

LOL! That's not repotting. Repotting is re-waxing the pickup. As far as how much, I'm not entirely sure, sorry.

You should be able to do it at home though. Be sure to get special wax made for pickups. I believe Stew-Mac sells it.

One quick question about the wax, what would one do with the leftovers? What if I don't want to keep it and I wanna throw it out, i'll have to wait till it hardens and then chuck it don't i...

Yeah, you'll have to wait until it hardens. It only takes like 3 minutes for wax to harden though. Then just chuck it in the trash along with the can.

It could also be broken windings in the pickup. Happened to me on a new Gibson. (They ended up giving me a new pair, free.)

IF your pickup has a cover on it like a PAF, just take off the silver or gold cover and you'll probably be fine.

if it's still under warranty, the company should repot/rewire it for free.

if not, there are guys who'll fix it for you for a price (if you aren't confident enough to do it yourself)
