I think I'm going to get a new output transformer

Dave did an awesome job on my Marshall Reissue when he threw the Kitchen Sink mod in. The gain and chug and there and love what it did to the voicing of the amp. Unfortunately, the Marshall Reissues are not known for their awesome tone. Something in the amp is holding back the full potential of the Friedman tone, and I think it might be the output transformer. There is currently a Dagnall in there and although I'm not a amp tech, I've read that people are not big fans of the output transformers that came with the Marshall Reissue line.

I've also heard people get rid of the bright cap in theirs but not ready to do that quite yet. I get some noise but I believe that gain and the wiring in my house have alot to do with that. The main thing is the slight bright/harsh tone I get that sounds different than clips I've heard from other Friedman amps. However, a few of the Marshall modded Friedmans sound brighter than the actual Friedman production amps.

I was wondering if you guys could chime in with some suggestions for output transformers and any other things I can adjust to get my tone as close as possible to Dave's production amp? I know that Dave uses special transformers with the Friedman. I've heard Drakes and Mercury Magnetics would be good choices with a Marshall.

Thanks guys and thanks Dave for giving us all awesome tone!

Not sure if those are the exact models you need but you can take it from there.

I could supply you with one.
That might be your best route. Then Dave could tweek it accordingly.

Hey Dave! I wanted to ask about your transformers but was afraid that it would be like Col Sanders giving out the KFC recipe. :)

How much would an output transformer cost? Dave just to let you know, I'd love to have you put that in for me but I'll probably have it done locally for two reasons. Number 1, you are super busy :) and 2, my amp doesn't currently have a headshell so I worry about shipping it and UPS using it as a rugby ball.

Cost is 200.00 for the transformer.

Thanks Dave! I'll try to give you a call sometime this week.
