I have accepted a new job and ill be starting janurary some time wita a $15k+/yr jump in current pay (that still hasnt been finalized yet it could go as high as 25k more) So I want a new guitar as a gift to myself.

I prefer strat shapes but i am open. My only real requirement is a maple fret board! so help me decide what I want.

The first thing on my list is an ibanez rg350mxd or whatever... how about charvel, a custom built warmoth or something.

Help me out here guys :D

Well right now is a great time to but vintage gear. See what you can find out there around a late sixties strat, or get yourself a closet classic. Myself I prefer Les Pauls but I own a fender.

those john shur guitars look like they are made well. he uses great quality woods.

Go Ibanez, you can't go wrong

Id rather not get a vintage guitar unless it is already beat up. I do not take care of my guitars... they are meant to be beat and played imo. Gibson is out for me.. I want a maple fretboard and I dont think they have ever really had any in their lineup with a maple fretboard.

If you haven't tried one, you owe it to yourself to explore Anderson, Suhr, or someone else in that league. I own an Anderson and it is by far the best constructed guitar I have ever played. Mine also looks and sounds phenominal.

You know.. after looking at those shots.. I might try and find one of the anniversary rg550's... didnt one of those have a maple fretboard?

Yes. Keep in mind that they're not Prestige models, so the fretwork isn't quite as good on those.

What is the price range on those? Id like to keep it under a $1000, and I though suhr's were well over that? There is a suhr dealer in dallas I could hit up though.

Yes, that model is an "overseas" model.

Umm, they are way over $1K, probably over $2K new. Even still, I don't regret it for a minute - that guitar is never going anywhere.

I like the new USA San Dimas Charvel production series so much I have already bought two of them for myself. They have quartersawn maple necks, strat headstocks, a killer neck shape, Floyd Rose trems, Seymour Duncan or DiMarzio pickups and they just play killer. They are a bit under your budget too, and we are talking about US made instruments here. And by the way, I know a great place to buy them ;)

:D

Fender American Telecaster, has maple neck options, starting at $999.99

If I had a spare grand, this would be my choice, probably the natural or the blizzard pearl.

Good news is, there are so many good choices at the price range you mentioned; the bad news is, there are so many good choices at the price range you mentioned. picking one is tough. Let us know what you decide on and why!

Over $1k, but perhaps not as much over as you might guess...less than some new non-Custom Shop Fenders...

I have several Ibanez RGs, the Charvel smokes em all in my opinion. Sounds better too... most Ibanez guitars I've owned with those wizard necks played well but were fairly toneless.
