I want another Friedman. Which one?

I have the BE100 2014 model and it's one of the best amps I've played. It may have de-throned my beloved metal grill XTC101B but I'm still not selling it ;)

Amps I have is a 2014 standard Shiva modded to Jerry Cantrell specs with a 3 way switch.
Peavey 5150 II that I got in mint condition for $400, sounds too good to pass up.
Vox AC30
Vox AC4
Bogner Barcelona
Friedman BE100
Bogner 101b

So really I guess I have all my basis covered but I still want another Friedman and not sure what to get.
Is the small box overlapping with the BE100? Is the JJ not too far off from the BE100?
Dirty Shirley maybe? Wasn't to hot on the butterslax, it's good sounding but thought the JJ sounded better for that style.
 
Unless you go with the DS or the BB, they all overlap some.

Can't the BE get the plexi channel tone with the master high and using the gain as volume? The both share the same BE channel from my understanding.
 
You have high wattage amps covered. Go with the PT20, for smaller gigs and/or practice.

I tried one and wasn't really digging the el84's

On the DSM I wish it had 6V6s since big brother is sporting 5881/6L6
 
I would guess that the DS would be the most different addition. I have the Mini. Fantastic Fat amp.

And I too have a BE100 that is giving me Friedman GAS. I'm tempted to get a JJ-100 myself...

I too am interested in the JJ, there's a demo locally for $2699, I'm tempted to pick up but I'm afraid it'll overlap with the BE. They have a demo of the DS40 for $2125 but doesn't have the gain cut switch. I dont know which I'd like the most.
 
get the JJ, for that price you wont regret it, I see used ones going for 3k so at 2700 you could sell it anyway. I have one and love it!!! Also, Guitar center is blowing out SS100's for a crazy low price just to move them (1,999), that would be different than a BE 100.
 
You that have both the BE and DS40, run your BE with these settings and tell me how close are far it is from copping a DS tone.

I caved and a JJ100 is headed my way!

Brent, I have a DSM and tomorrow just for fun I will try those settings on my BE100. I have matching cabs which helps going back an forth. My first guess is that the DSM is fatter than the BE with it's bass and fat switch dimed.

I tried this with my BE and DSM thru matching cabs just to hear. As I guessed, the DSM has a lot more bass. With the DSM bass on zero, there is still more than the BE has with the Fat on and the bass full up. The presence had to be rolled back closer to 10:00. Gain on the DSM was somewhere around 1:00 (high gain mode) to somewhat match the 9:00 on the BE. Turn the bass/DSM up to noon and you have a fat tone the BE can't copy. DSM has a slightly slinkier feel, maybe a little more forgiving.

These settings got close (other than the FAT bass), but it's still a slightly different distortion flavor and feel. Just like the PT, Runt, BE are all different flavors.

Hey thanks for running those settings through your DSM. I'm surprised it has that much more bass than the BE. The BE already has a fixed resonance that gives it plenty of low end and then the fat switch makes it humongous in the low registry. The DS must have bigger couplers between its gain stages and power amp. I'm also shocked the 20 watt EL84s could out bass the BE.

It's a 3 way mod that gives you the choice of stock shiva, + and ++. ++ is gainer and more open, fluid, easier to play and not so congested sounding, spec wise it's similar to the XTC classic but more aggressive. + setting is the same thing just less of everything ++ does. Sits in the middle between stock and ++. In either of the 2 settings it's brighter, gainier and more aggressive. Sounds really good with lower gain settings also.

Also the bright switch is shifted to boost highs and mids unlike the stock bright switch that is very subtle and boost highs.

Where is this at? At that Price I would buy three.
