I caved and a JJ100 is headed my way!

Cool! Let us know what you think once you got it. I have one as well and it's an awesome amp.

I'm still on the fence, I about caved last night and bought a DS 40 but figured I'd sleep on it. Now this morning I'm not sure. I'm still haunted by the JJ 100 but then I come back to the fact I have a BE 100 and feel they will overlap too much. I want something different and I think the DS would be something I would play a lot. I love mid to high gain tones with vintage voicing and enjoy the occasional low gain break up with a Strat (I'm a LP guy).

My JJ showed up last night and I've only had a couple of low volume goes with it, so way too early to form an opinion.

But anyway, first impressions are the BE mode sounds great, I may even prefer it's aggression to my BE100, the JJ mode I'm not sure on, yet. (EDIT: it's a few days later and I'm really loving this amp more and more everyday). (EDIT Again: It's now been a week with the amp. I'm really sold on this amp - the way it cleans up soon nicely! And tone to the bone.) Feeling a little underwhelmed going from all the bells and whistles of the BE100, but mostly missing the foot switchable boost.

Another great Friedman amp. Sounds great. A bit of over lap, yes. I may sell one or the other in a few months when the dust settles...(EDIT: After a week with the amp I can't see this going anywhere nor my BE...just great stuff!) I could see having both of these amps if your pockets are deep enough. They are different. And in that case grab a SS to! I would like to try one of those too.

And I'm not selling my beloved DSM any time soon (or my PT).

Good luck with your search! (When does the Shirley get there?) lol

Sounds like you should try the Shirley...

get the JJ, for that price you wont regret it, I see used ones going for 3k so at 2700 you could sell it anyway. I have one and love it!!! Also, Guitar center is blowing out SS100's for a crazy low price just to move them (1,999), that would be different than a BE 100.

$1,999???

Where are you seeing this??

I will show you if I could ever find out how to publish pictures here, it always says max is reached every time I try to put up a photo .

;) Nice collection you have there. What is your verdict on the Dirtey Shirley compared to the BE. I played the mini DS and thought it was a hell of an amp but not enough gain for my taste.

To me it sounds like a Brown Eye and Budda SuperDrive had a daughter named Dirty Shirley. Very full sounding with huge extended low end but it's very manageable low end that doesn't get out of control. Extremely vintage sounding overall without the congestiveness that old amps get when cranked with a lot of gain. Speaking of gain, it has maybe just as much as the BE channel, well maybe not quite but close.

The 3 way switch is very nice to have also.
I'd say, to my ears, the DS may be a little warmer sounding than the BE.
Master at noon and use the gain for volume and you have some killer, killer clean tones.
The inbetween tones on this thing are just the best. Love it!
I don't remember the head being this small, it's a little guy. :)

BadCat did the mini you played have the same amount of gain? I start with just the DS then kick in the OCD then back to just the amp again.

Hey, man!
Congrats! Great collection!
Some time ago... I almost bought this 5150, but at the end, bought the Smallbox! :)

Thanks again for sharing.
Difficult to tell the difference from a video.
What would be your pick. DS or Smallbox with a BE pedal or the Brown Eye in the first place. Like the sound of the BE very much but am not a fan of 100 Watt heads due to size and weight. Clearly prefer the smaller size of a smallbox or a DS but i guess the BE is more versatile than the other too?
Which would be your pick if you just could have one Brent?

I hope you don't mind me throwing a picture of my collection/obsession in your thread...

Man.....I'm really liking this DS, but I'm still in the honey moon stage. I feel the BE would be my pick. The modes SAT/C45/FAT and Voicing mode is very useful.
