I never posted a Thread about a Noisegate before, but in case you need a Noise Gate check out the Ibanez Pentatone PTGATE. It's very good. Really.
It does everything you want from a Noise Gate very good.
I tested it in front of the Amp, with no Boost. Boosts in the Loop of the PTGATE, and Boosts after the PTGATE. Basically all scenarios, except for the PTGATE in the Amp-Loop. But i see no reason for it to work anything less than really good in the Amp-Loop as well.
The only downside ist: when using Batteries, which i don't - so it's no Problem, you'd had to unscrew four screws at the bottom and also the four nuts from the Inputs, which kinda sucks, but it is what it is. 🤷‍♀️
P.s.: I had all the usual suspects. Namely ISP Decimator I, II, G-String, X, Boss NS-2, Fortin Zuul, MXR Noise Clamp, Smart Gate and the Noise Gates in the 2203KK and the Deadweald Duality DX. PTGATE beats them all, in my opinion.

you notice any tone suck with it off? I have the zuul+ and its also true bypass when disengaged. I was clicking it on only for aggressive 7 string stuff then leaving it off most of the time.

With it off, the TB key has some tone suck, rolling off highs. So I've been keeping it on to engage the buffer, which is better, but a bit sterile.

I love the decimator x gstring for the most natural sustain, but it isnt the most powerful gate I have ever used and it does tone suck. I just add back in the highs.

But the ibanez sounds interesting.

For me, there are three things (off the top of my head) that make me sell a gate:

1 popping/cutting in and out. Just random almost opening of the gate where you get a crackle or full noise..

2 unnatural sustain. This is huge. I hate having a chord cut off. This is where almost every gate fucks me.

3 the echo. When you silence the strings and have the extended closing of the gate, static, or this weird echo of your stop

This is where the gstring x really excels, and why i will keep it til something dethrones it.

No, no tone loss in my High-Gain-Scenarios. I did not switch between a high gain and a clean sound with the Gate on in the same setting though, but i checked: Gate on, vs Gate off, Gate on, vs No Gate, and Gate off, vs no Gate and if anything it made the Sound better when it was on in the sense of cleaning the sound of unwanted noise while playing. It gets more punchy and articulate.

Try the PTGATE. ;) It does none of that, opens ultra fast, with no loss in attack, has no tone loss, no artifacts and the decay is very natural. It also supports the playing and it makes the sound kinda "cleaner", more punchy and articulate. I haven't had high (if any) expectations and i'm pleasantly surprised. It's a keeper.

Nice, I think I'll check it out. I only really use the zuul on one setting so if its good enough I don't think I'd miss the hold and release knobs.

This guy had a good review on the gates, if you go a section earlier you can hear them all. I've only found one good video for the ibanez, but for me its looking like either that one or the TC Electronics sentry. The Decimator comments about it being the most natural seem to track

Nice. I had the GStringII for years, but prefer the GUPtech SUN. Any chance you've tried one? That range switch looks pretty interesting, I don't use a lot of gate, so the low mode sweep interests me.

I wanted an analog Gate hence i took the Ibanez. I just checked it again. I even let a chord ring with me on speaker height and toggled on/off and i heard no difference in sound and no difference in sustain. I have it in the low setting with the knob at 12 o'clock.

No i havent checked the GUPtech SUN. This is the company with the pedal Gary Holt uses in his loop right?
I have it in the low setting with the knob at 12 o'clock. Works perfect. Check post above.

Thanks for this. I was using a 6505 1992 with the guys I'm jamming with now and I haven't used a gate in awhile with my other amps. This amp needs it.
