Alright my friends.... I spend my majority of my time practicing at home.. just that.. practicing, noodling, riffing....whatever.. no recording, DAW stuff, etc.. My live rig is complete with my Gower Killer Kali and w/d setup.

Im looking for a really good, nice high gain tone in a smaller budget for my home needs. Im not going the Axe FX route so unless you have the 'word' that will change my mind.. I don't want to hear it :D I have considered an Eleven Rack or something comparable. It comes down to me finding and amp or modeler that keeps me inspired and keeps me 'wanting' to practice cuz of what I hear. Yes, tone is in the fingers and whatnot... I also know I would give up if I had to play a bugera or line 6 for more than 5 minutes. Im really looking at taking the next step in my dedication to what I love.. I have a art-sla2 power amp so preamps, modelers, etc are possible.. as well as damn good high gain combo amps. I don't need a 30 trick pony.. just need something that does one or 2 things really f'n good. Your input is needed and appreciated. Thank you as always.

My styles... Aldrich, Norum, Petrucci, Timmons, Andy James, Sykes, Gilbert, Moore, Sfogli... and so on

Cheers and Happy Holidays

I am between the Yamaha Thr10 and Line 6 HD500  Gonna buy something today. Thoughts if you've had experience with either one. Thanks

Cory

I spend most of my playing time on either my Baron Snott Watt, or if I want something different like effects, an AxeFx... The Baron is pretty fun to play around on. It can do a pretty fair amount of tones with some tweaking of knobs, different boosts, etc. I don't know if it'd suit what you're looking for or not, but it'd be worth looking into.

Sykes, Norum, Aldrich?

IMHO i would recommend a Suhr PT100 or OD100+

That type of gain structure is a layered ordeal - really hard for a modeler to get that type of tone and keep you satisfied beyond the honeymoon phase.

IMHO that amplifier would suite your playing style well and keep you inspired a lot longer than a modeler. Anything else you look at these days that will have the higher quality amplifier models will also have the ability to record - so otherwise it seems like money down the drain you are waisting on things you know you do not plan or care to use.

Based on your list of influences / target sounds, I think an ADA MP1 would be worth a look.

Don't discount the POD HD series. Some killer tones and effects to be had in there for a few hundred bucks.

Given Cory is looking for a practice amp, the PT100 is probably a little more scratch than he is wanting to spend........Plus, if I recall correctly, Cory HAD a PT100 last year at some point and moved it along?.....

Line 6 Spider Jam.

Backing tracks, metronome, and the ability to create your own loops (with drums), and play over them; very worthwhile.

Nothing was mentioned with a budget - if he is considering being swayed with a $2600 Axe Fx then i considered a used suhr amplifier more than reasonable given his expectations of not being left down. How many times have you watched or heard a person go to a modeling setup and then back to amplifiers? And who said you cannot play and practice on a 100W amplifier? If he stated midnight mouse fart playing then that wouldnt be reasonable but once again nothing was mentioned :dunno:

Thanks for the responses thus far guys... Yes, I do have a budget and yes.. I use to have a PT100.. great amp, but I did move it along. I don't need a 100 watt head... I have the best one for me sitting right next to me.. and that's why my 'live' rig is locked down.

I will look into some of your ideas and see what I think. appreciate it. Cheers and Happy Holidays to you all

Line 6 Spider combo. Seriously. I have a fricken Kemper and still miss the Spider for quick and dirty noodling and riff writing. What a great amp.

Pod HD. Good amps, fx and the looper is really fun and useful for writing and jamming by yourself.
