If any one cares. TGP got really messed up the last few weeks

Another thing about the weirdness of their decision making. That's something that obviously touches a nerve, but all of the gross bullshit some of the users, even very very leftist ones, get on about women is practically a scott free crime. There's some really fucking toxic dudes on that site, and they'll make it known of their own volition that they're like that.

Classic example is the "OP complains about woman he barely knows but is probably infatuated with" threads. Fuck man, there's at least one of those a week. Fucking creeps.

Reminds me of Harmony Central back in the day there was a dude there, Curtis, who was openly talking about sleeping with minors. They protected him and banned people who complained about him talking like that. Fifteen years on I have to wonder if ol' Curt is on a sex offender registry yet. I bet. I think he was Canadian.

Permabanned from TGP several years ago. No explanation. Tried to login several times so I couldn't even see the infraction/charges. I don't recall getting an email to let me know either. I was rsm there too, I tried to setup a new account with rsm1 or similar, not to hide, but to try to contact a moderator; that was instantly locked/shut down too. An explanation or at least being informed of the infraction would have been nice, but it wasn't worth the bother after I tried to login / rejoin.

I recall I said something in the pub that someone (a favoured persona) didn't like; next thing I knew there was a dogpile of responses to my post; then I was gone. I don't recall the specifics, but I do recall many of the comments against me were of the same ilk just in opposition to my position, i.e., just as "banworthy" as what I said.

I'll just view their current challenges as belated karma for those who were permabanned for things that others didn't get permabanned for, over the years. :poke:

There's one guy over there who I have certain suspicions may be a hobby rat. I'll not name him but I doubt it's the same guy you're referencing.

The one I'm referring to brings real gym teacher energy into the room. If he doesn't like you he waits for opportunities to report you. I imagine he drives the mods over there nuts.

so long ago that I don't remember the details or who all was involved, even the moderators; I actually never had any direct "personal" issues with any of the mods there; and none of the mods were "out to get me"; but clearly I pissed someone (or a few someones) off. It could also be due to total infraction points exceeding a limit?

I think I took an opposite position to a post in the pub; like I said I wasn't the only one in the thread that was breaking the topic rules, maybe others got permabanned too?

Sometimes when I do gear searches I get TGP results, so there's some good information out there; I can still read posts there at least, if they're useful / worth it.

Because the forum discusses gear, and that's its purpose, keeping the old posts adds value because it means that gear that may not get the same attention nowadays still has feedback content from prior. Sometimes things like that lead to revitalizations of units. Builders like Boss reportedly scour the site for ideas on the regular. If they see enough demand in writing for a re-release of a discontinued item, that can help factor into whether they see a demand for it (but it's obviously not the only parameter by which they make decisions, they're not idiots).

Sometimes seasoned players who are members throw in their 2 cents on a unit and that definitely holds value, even if it's a post from 2003.

I learned a lot from TGP when it comes to sound design, but after a certain point I had to get out of Effects. It's more hecklers than players at this point.

I don't think the mods collectively have it out for anybody.

Certain users seem to operate as rats, though, which I don't even think the mods appreciate. It just makes them feel prompted to work on behalf of some conniving individual's influence.

Nobody in a position of responsibility wants some layabout telling them what to do, and I definitely think the same of forum mods. They're there to keep the site from being overthrown by assholes, and then some assholes try to debate with them ad nauseam as to why some user shouldn't be allowed to post. But it's the personal bias of the rat, not the mod.
