For sure, Ola is top dawg. I do think sonic drive has good tone and is consistent but also think he has more refined production and does more processing baked into his sound. I suppose he falls into the “can make every amp sound the same” category, which isn’t a bad thing. Just makes it harder to judge gear. I know Ola was running into that but it seems like he found a way to shake things up in recent years.
Michael Nielson probably gets good tone but I have a hard time picking apart traditional rock based tones. It all can tend to sound similar to me. Besides, someone mentioned something about how they can’t watch him because they can’t “unsee” the rocker face he makes while playing (which I never even noticed it before) and now I can’t unsee either. Now, even when the camera doesn’t show his face it’s too much of a brain stain… I know exactly what face he’s making!
I’ve been tired of the YouTube guitar thing for a long time too, but I’m afraid within the next 5-10 years we will look back and wish we could have it back because whatever takes YouTube’s place will probably be Meta Glasses telling to like and subscribe to Metaverse characters and you have to pay money to get a “human verified influencer”
