Sorry, I have to say that we have only big trouble
with the 6550. The latest issue is that the retainers
scratch the glas till it gets a hole and air comes inside
the tube.

If the amp is biased correctly it gets very hot.

If You have an older amp the screen grid voltage
will be too high and destroys the tube. The data sheet
states 400 volt, but no problems till 450 volts. Older
models have up to 480 volts.

Please understand that I cannot recommend the tube.
Of course some of You guys like the sound.

That´s right, the 6L6 types are tight with bit more low end
but less midrange harmonics like the EL34

The EL34BHT has a touch of 6L6 btw.

i know Papa...just love my 6550s.... = ) but if they will hurt my babies i may have to take one for the team!

VH4 a toy?? I think not!! This is manly gear for manly men doing manly things. (and trying to sap every last mA of tone out of your wonderful designs). I'm loving my VH4 more and more every day and learning that small adjustments make BIG differences.

May have to get a Herbert next. Loving the products. Keep up the strong work!

This is very true. I went from JJ6L6 to El34BHT.

I'm running KT88's in my Herbert at 52ma and haven't had any problems yet. I realize it's a different tube and head, but pretty darned close.

Besides, a 6550 is a slightly hotter tube than a KT88 right?

This is very true. I went from JJ6L6 to El34BHT.

thats cool,but the diezels are so rich with 6l6s still...plus inve never liked el34s except in marshalls, or if im playin blues or classic rock
