Oh... I see.
So YOU can be our first client. :gethim:

NO SLAX for YOU. And now you have to send me your JJ100 so I can hold on to it for awhile.
You need an intervention my son. Or maybe an exorcism. ( I haven't decided yet. )

This is serious. :student:
But fear not. I am here to help you.
It's part of my own R&D oldmtlhed... I have to know the poisons to recognize them in others. I am the sacrificial lamb here. I'll take it on the chin for the benefit of others to come in the future.

This is work in the trenches men. Stay tuned.

Literally :D

As a fellow colleague in the business, I am fully trained to recognize these symptoms in my patients.
What you have just said, sounds suspiciously like a well-fabricated excuse to "acquire more gear".

We have plenty of suffering patients to help here. No need for you to JOIN THEM. :scared:
I need you on THIS side of the fence, assisting me with my duties and responsibilities.
If you can't carry your own weight, I may have to replace you. But I know I can count on you.
When it comes time for the rubber to meet the road... you will do the right thing.

Heck of a huge investment.

I'll bet you can't even play it at a moderate volume. Gotta be cranked, huh.
You have neighbors?
\:D/
It's not often I hear my JJ100 dimed.

But when I do, so does my neighbourhood

Investment - doesn't matter so long as it delivers

Exactly the right reason!

Congrats on a beautiful amp!

Just moving some stock around, that's all... I sold some stuff that was collecting dust, and am moving into new "Friedman" terrain. So far, I'm very pleased with what I'm experiencing. And once I get a taste of something I like, well... I buy it.

But for those wondering - the amp that's been getting the most play is my Atma combo   Seriously, just the ease of use and volume levels makes it my go-to noodler and ideas-box. Love it.

However, being that this is the Friedman forum, yes, a JJ100, Slax and Vintage 412 are all either in-house already or en route.

Go big, or go bigger :rawk:

Slax incoming by day end tomorrow!!
JJ is blowing my mind...rifling through picks like nobody's business, just can't get enough of this grind!!
Hoping the Slax is all this and just wrapped up in a meaner nastier more brutal way.

Oh yes

You are so spoiled. That ATMA is $2k. ( For what is basically a practice amp. )
And you have a JJ and the SLAX incoming.
From the way you talk about the JJ.... you really don't need a SLAX.

Having said that, all I want to know is: which one you end-up liking better. And why.
SO... I await your thoughts. You spoiled little weasel.

Aw c'mon man, I know ya love me ya big softie!!

Yes yes, I'll put my thoughts down on which does what and how they compare and blah blah blah.

I am just in the midst of packing up one house to move into my other (pre-winter housing shift for the upcoming snow season in Whistler) so whether or not I'll be able to give 'er between now and the next couple weeks, up for debate. But I've left a cab free to play until the last of my gear moves to my other pad, at which time I'll happily be unravelling everything and plugging in and playing through till Christmas!!

Stay tuned. In the meantime, I'll just slax off and kill time with the JJ and that overpriced practise amp (which does go very well with my 20thA Sheevs, 20thA XTC and modded TwinJet just FYI....) :D

Today is a good day...

JJ100........

"Dear JJ100,

Thank you for making your way into my world. I didn't think much of your family before getting to know you as well as I do now, and I should have known better than to judge. Judging is a character defect, my apologies.

But I just wanted to say, thanks for making me re-visit and re-try every Alice In Chains song ever produced (that's not acoustic) to the point of obsessive compulsion. I've got your brother "Mr. B. Slax" in the house as you know, and he's a bit unruly... Loud fella, but we get along great - he's all business. But you, dear JJ100, you've got this lower mids thing that just sounds dead sexy and truly wicked. Thank you. I've always loved AIC, and a host of other bands....all good of course. But thanks to your abilities to nail pretty much everything from Facelift to Dinosaurs, thanks for having me learn a few new tunes I'd never imagined I'd sit down to learn.

You're just that good. Addictive, inspirational, and damn fine sounding and feeling. Thanks JJ!! You're a kickass amp.

Yours Truly,
Mo

Many PMs and requests for me to say what it's like to have these two bad boys side by side...

As per my recent posts, I'll keep it simple... One word descriptors and then an explanation:
Butterslax = "glorious"
Incredibly, this amp came in fast on the heels of the JJ... Why? Not because I was missing something with the JJ, on the contrary, I "found something" in the JJ I wanted to know if was in other amps by Dave, so it was between the DS or the Slax. I opted for the Slax. It has the same mojo in it - amazing (like, I've never experienced before) dynamics and touch sensitivity; range; simplicity in design but amazingly complex and rich tones; huge spectrum from clean to mean; maintains clarity - focus - articulation - from low to flow - mellow to HELLO!!! - soft to hard - smooth and smoky to heavy and percussive - the amp does it all. I did add the 10 band EQ in the loop, not necessary but it did definitely add some salt and pepper to an already amazing dish. So ya, this amp delivers the brootz in spades and unlike any other "geared towards heavy" music amp, this one also offers AMAZING tones to the left and to the right of "just brootz". I spent almost 6 hours playing old-school blues riffs yesterday on Ch.1 with a looper and a few basic FX. 6 hours on 1 channel. This doesn't happen very often :D

JJ100 = "mine"
My first real foray into the realm of Friedman amps. Why the JJ? Because I do play a lot of AICs music; I've been told I handle the guitar similarly to Jerry where I am more about solid rhythms and playing that offers an impact through choice note selection and feel, over fretboard olympics and NPM (Notes Per Minute) record breaking acts. I love the lower mids - and this amp from the moment I flicked "Standby" to the run position, BOOM, Jerry-in-a-box. Low rumbling amazing depth; grinding thick grainy lower mids that really carry the weight of the chords played; percussive; and then this amazing sparkling clean channel that goes from dark blankety smoky blues tones to crystal shiny AC30'ish sparkles. Wow - not what I was expecting, but so nice to have on tap. I've got the additional MV on the front, I'd find this a definite must when considering this amp. I love the loops on [both] amps. This amp hit me immediately with the Friedman mojo which caused me to cough up $4000 on the Slax without a second thought. When I find something I want and like, I buy it. The JJ has AMAZING dynamics, it speaks back to you...amazing. Loves guitar controls. I need more time to experiment with pups and woods, but thus far, it hits home - and home for me - is the core Cantrell tone. I've got Rev2s, Fishs, Shivas, etc. all in my gravity towards the Cantrell style tone. I'm not trying to be Jerry or emulate him; just so happens he and I have similar taste in tone and I like his music and style. Win win. And the reason the "one word descriptor" just happens to be "mine", it's because within 20 seconds of hearing this amp and playing this amp - literally - 20 seconds, I was grinning knowing I was on "home turf" with this amp. It's just that easy...it's "my amp". "My tone". "Mine". Feels like "home".

What I have learned to date about these amps is that they do all offer something different whether it be the BE, the Pink, the DS, the Slax, the SS, the PhilX, the BE50, the JJ, whatever the amp - they've got specific (for lack of a better term) niches. But in the 2 owned thus far, and likely a 3rd coming in with a Dirty Shirley, the reason I am so jacked on these amps is for the shit you don't see or directly hear, which is the dynamics, sensitivity, range, clarity, sweetness, richness, girth when cranked up, and capability to stay focused and articulate no matter what the gain or what the volume....it puts the work on the cab, it's not the amp that's the weak link here. These amps have got that "magical crystal lattice unobtanium" stuff in their circuits. But the good kind, not the Radio Shack kind :D
(Amp builders will know the inside joke on that one last comment   )

This is hard to find in an amp these days...or maybe it's all just a personal journey and quest. But whatever it is - these amps feel remarkably different from the rest. Dave's got the trick(s). I care less for what these tricks are, and just am happy to know there's another amp manufacturer out there that knows "magical tricks" to his circuits that translates to inspirational, untiring happiness in playing in front of these circuits.

JJ100 and the Butterslax. Both amazing amps. Both similar but different. Both inspirational. 3 channels on the Slax, quasi 3rd on the JJ with the front mount MV. Both play nice with FX and a variety of guitars and pups. Nod goes to the Slax for what seems a higher acceptance of different pups, but this will be researched tomorrow during the day - I'll spend the day with JJ and see where I'm at with a variety of guitars/pups/musical styles. Both are hands down absolute winners. Neither move me towards playing AIC or Mastodon, just to be clear, but I've already been a AIC covers player for years, so this was a natural move in the direction of the JJ... But the Slax? I didn't even know who Bill Kelliher was before this amp entered my realm...he seems like a nice guy. But I'm really happy to have his signature amp in my house instead of him LOL.

Hope this helps.
DS incoming.
Peace Y'all....

I would feel 100% comfortable buying either one of these amps sight unseen, just based off of your reviews!!

Just got the Slax myself. Hopefully will be here early next week. Stoked

Glad to assist. Tone is personal, but whenever someone gets in front of an amp that "responds" a special way, there's simply no denying this interaction and playability. Might not be the tone YOU are specifically after, but christ almighty, it'd be a great place to start not being disappointed

When you get it? You'll be pretty astonished. I'm kinda sitting there looking at it wondering if I've found "the" amp. I know, I know...blasphemy!! But seriously, this thing does so much with so little. Fuck

Ya, it's a serious bit of sonic goodness. I'm going to have to plug into my 20th X and Sheevs to make sure they don't get jealous (and also to go back and determine just what side of this newly erected fence my ears may be siding on!!).

I typed "erected", just for you Beavis and Butthead type

CONGTRAZ!!!!!!!
