Um, really? if you're into progressive music - even tangentially - you cannot afford not to listen to Operation Mindcrime.

I cant believe how stuck on 80.s artist's this place seems to be. Some warranted, EVH, et al. but Queensryche? this was a band I never considered "Metal" enough for me. to this day I dont get it. What was that silent lucidity Album? whatever that was with the videos that were all shadowy with the custom guitar paint jobs? thats about all I remember from this guy. Why do people follow this music at all? Rant over. But I just dont get it. He sucks.

Rage for Order, Operation Mind Crime - '80s (don't hate) or not simply amazing. Vocals, writing, playing, production, etc. Turning up the gain and screaming into a mic isn't more Metal. ;)

My guess is that Reza is just a bit too young to have gotten the full impact of Queensryche? As others have said, the EP was very heavy for it's time. Then The Warning, Rage for Order and Operation Mindcrime were all incredible albums in my opinion. After Mindcrime I had had enough of QR and by the Empire album with Silent Lucidity on it, it was enough already. They went from an American version of Priest meets Maiden and gradually became more polished and sophisticated and prog until they just got too wimpy with Empire.

Still though, I remember listening to them on the tour for the EP when they opened for Twisted Sister who was heavy as hell at that point too and QR was incredible

Yup EP was pretty hot shit when it came out, and Mind Crime made them huge.

I liked the EP and Warning, then lost interest in them.

EP tour was great, and just happened to see them at a great venue. Front row was nice comfy seats and a table to hold the rot gut whiskey drinks!

Hell even Twisted Sister was allright back then, thier pre-MTV stuff was allright.

Playing Devil's advocate for a moment - Though he may be a douche now and not sound that great live any more, back in the day Tate was the greatest metal singer on the planet, on album and live (IMHO of course :) ):

Me and Reza are the exact same age and I pretty much agree with the exact thing posted above. I was huuuuuuuuge into O:M in high school and was in a band that played a bunch of it, even played Queen of the Reich in High School talent show.

That being said, this place is obsessed with the 80s no doubt about it. I have moved on musically while still enjoying some of it from time to time. I find myself pretty alone on this forum these days and don't hang near as much. All good, shit happens.

There are plenty of forums around where modern metal styles are the focus. Birds of a feather flock together.

Wow.

I remember the operation mindcrime days lol...i even like empire. Still. But mindcrime 2 sucked ass and.geoff tate's a douchetwat lol

The Geoff Tate douchery brings them (both groups, or 3-4, whatever) lots of publicity; haven't heard so much Queensryche talk in the last 15 years. They still suck though...

I get it man...I really do. But, perhaps download "Operation Mindcrime" and give it a few listens: you may find yourself hooked...Very impressive record from just about every angle.

That washed up loser should be glad someone wants to take a picture of his ugly ass face.

Seriously! What a way to treat a fan in the front row. Classless.

Who was playing is irrelevant, this guy is a complete douchenozzle. When he did that self-absorbed pile of drivel video about his wine and motorcycles I wanted to puke. It's a fucking douche move no matter who does it. No one says "I don't guess I'll buy his music or go to his show because I saw a really shitty and inaudible cell phone video of him". What a classless dick.

Am I the only one that wants to see that video just to see what it looked like in 1st-person seeing him grab the camera and whip it?? Curious if that'll ever launch online... Just for a few laughs. :)

Also, isn't that John from AMob on bass?? Rudy must've gotten sick of his crap and scrammed... :/

When I read that I knew what your band sounded like even before I clicked the video in your sig. And yet I clicked anyway. Please give me back that 3:44 I wasted.

But back to the original topic. Queensryche was great once. Tate was great once. Tate is a douche now, and I'm not in the least bit surprised that he pulled something like that.

It's too bad that people we admired as musicians are dickheads in person...but we don't buy their music for their personality. It's about the music. Plenty of heroes of mine I've heard/read are total a-holes but I still like what they produce and if I get a chance to see them live I will. As far as the 80s thing we could go round all day on opinions..I'm 46 and of course I think the 80s was the best time for rock guitar period. It's not even close..I know the 60s and 70s were amazing also with the origins of hard rock(Sabbath, Zep) but for the sheer virtuosity of the players abilities..you HAD to own the instrument if you even wanted to play any clubs locally...lots of great players around. Nowadays not so much..doesn't mean it's a bad thing but I just don't hear the same ability in players I hear on hard rock radio. I know there are lots still out there but I just don't hear anything other than a really bassy drop Z type tone so I usually turn the station as I HATE that sound..just my opinion. I do like some modern rock(shinedown, alter bridge) but that's not too heavy. QR back in the day were the next step in progressive metal, and Operation Mindcrime actually had a track get on mainstream rock radio in "I don't believe in love"..they were one of my favs..

Operation:Mindcrime. Listen to the whole thing, and then decide if you don't like them.
