I'd say it warrants a good 2-3 listens, I started appreciating it a bit more only recently after a few consecutive listens; I've always liked Empire better

I cant believe how stuck on 80.s artist's this place seems to be. Some warranted, EVH, et al. but Queensryche? this was a band I never considered "Metal" enough for me.

When I read that I knew what your band sounded like even before I clicked the video in your sig. And yet I clicked anyway. Please give me back that 3:44 I wasted.

But back to the original topic. Queensryche was great once. Tate was great once. Tate is a douche now, and I'm not in the least bit surprised that he pulled something like that.

Take your bullshit somewhere else. I've only seen two comments from you, and you're a dick in both. You're obviously here to stir up shit. Just go away.

I dig Empire too. The production is still so crisp and clear to this day. I remember reading about how around the time it came out a lot of front of house engineers would put it on to eq everything. I still prefer OM. It's a great album from start to finish. That along with the concept makes it a winner for me.

Songs are more complex and well structured in O:M. Something about Tate's voice (or overdubs) in most choruses is really annoying to me (high frequencies). I never really dug albums that try too hard to be smart, so concept does nothing for me (still a lot more tolerable than say, Judas Priest's Nostradamus)

As a long time fan I was unwilling to take sides
got the new Tatesryche disc, and the cover carries a message to the Wilton camp
Make of it what you will

Whats the deal with the Douche releasing a new cover of Silent Lucidity??
He didnt even write or have any credits to it the entire song was written by DeGarmo

Here's how that douche canoe (tate) could have handled it (3:06);

I literally wore two copies of Mindcrime out in the Alpine deck I'd put in to my old grey '84 Escort. Rage for Order had been amazing - Queensryche had a style and attack different than any other bands of the time. Mindcrime managed to make a concept album cool again. Empire was also great - I remember a number of women I knew who bought it because of "Silent Lucidity" and then asked WTF to the rest of the album. :)

One of the thing I really like is that (at least for me) the tones don't sound quite as dated as a lot of others from the time. They sat well in the mix and stood apart. I followed them until DeGarmo split, although subsequent albums were harder to get into. Sad to see where the band is at now.

I still love Empire - and we too used this in our recording studio back in the 90s to set the monitors up. It was over-the-top sonic perfection. Couldn't help but use it as a great platform. Not to mention, there was definitely some exceptional musicality in there too.

Now THAT'S awesome.
No matter who you are or what band you're in, if it weren't for the fans, you'd be nothing. Well played.

'Operation Mindcrime' is a masterpiece! It's probably the best metal album of the 1980's, and is one of the few from that era that I can still listen to.

I don't quite understand all the Geoff Tate bashing? So the guy lost his phone - so what! I use to sneak a 35mm camera w/lenses into concerts back in the 70's/80's knowing there was a good chance that it could be confiscated... That was half the fun of doing it! Better to have a band member take it from you than some fat security guy who reeks of Dorito's and Papst Blue Ribbon.

Makes me sad to see the state of things in Queensryche....they were huge for me growing up and are still one of my fav. bands...all their albums up to empire are really special and stay in rotation in my house.

As for the 80's thing, I don't see how anyone call themselves a fan of metal without giving a nod to the era....still is the best guitar playing in the genre and a time when musicianship was critical.....the effort to bash the time period in the genre was set forth by folks who are anti-metal and couldn't play it to save their lives....Yes, I'm an 80's metal fanatic as well as great metal and guitar since then.....and i wear it like a badge of honor!

Holy shit.....that is KICK ASS!!

Maybe Geoff saw that and got jealous?

I honestly thought (and in hindsight, hoped) they would hang it up once DeGarmo left.

I love everything up to and including Empire. The vision, the musicianship, the production - everything. Beyond that point, they changed and so did I, so I moved on. Some of the later stuff was good, but it seemed to lack the cohesive feel of the earlier albums. As far as Tate is concerned, he certainly comes across as a douche at times. I wish he was a nicer person, but that isn't required for me to appreciate the talent. And talent was something that he had plenty of. Tate was a member of a very elite group of rock vocalists; few others had that kind of range and power. Other than Cornell at his prime, there aren't many that could match him.

If you don't care for Queensryche, that's cool; it's certainly not for everyone. It seems that retroactive appreciation for progressive works is difficult. So, while I would strongly urge people to go back and give it a listen (or three), it may never grow on you. The reality is that, had I not been in the thick of that kind of music when Queensryche hit, I may have bypassed it with a shrug. I'm glad I didn't. It's in constant rotation on my iPod.

Putting labels on music is difficult for me. Personally, I wouldn't call Queensryche metal. It's just straight up ass kicking rock.

YMMV, just my .02, etc...

Or . . . the guy may have been video recording it. Sure, we all do it, but it's not exactly legal, especially when we throw it on YouTube, and Queensryche/Tate doesn't get paid for it.

Dick move, yeah, but I "understand" the reasoning behind it. Like what Chris Rock says about OJ Simpson: "I'm not saying he should have killed her, but I understand" ;)

I don't believe the no photo no video rule is even in play at most shows nowadays, let alone enforced. I think he should be happy that people still want to shoot video/pics and post them. No sense in trying to swim upstream. Put on a good show and be glad.

It may not be enforced because it just simply isn't possible to do so now that almost every person has a video camera on their cell phone, but I really don't know. I just remember talk a couple years ago about YouTube themselves wanting to remove "pirated" amateur concert shots, but if you browse YouTube its just all over the place.

However, I certainly agree that he should be happy he's still got people paying money to come out and see him and WANT to photo/video him.
