A buyer purchased my Bogner Barcelona head after countering his offer but he made it clear he can't pay until July 3rd and I'm ok with that, not what I wanted but I'm not desperate either so I agreed. Just told him if he gets a chance to pay for it sooner that would be appreciated otherwise I'll we'll wait til the 3rd.

Have I fell into any shady scam that I'm not aware of? The guy is from MA and has a foreign name but I know that doesn't mean anything and would certainly not want to stereotype him or judge him in any way based on that but......with that said and out of the way.....I'll blow a gasket and hunt the guy down to his death if I get scammed....not happening. I have no patience for that.....zero.

So any of you have any dealings with this guy? He hasn't done anything wrong whatesoever but these recent Reverb nightmares have made my blood boil and don't want to be a victim. It's probably all fine and dandy but maybe I'm missing something?

Sxxxxp Dxxxi is his name. Not sure how to look up his store to check his ratings.

That's the old I'll pay you in 2 weeks but it'll really be sorry dude can I have 2 more weeks oh no looks like I can't swing it after all game

That very well could be and if that's all that's fine I'll just repost it and tell him to screw off.

I thought when you made an offer you agree to the terms of payment should it be accepted. Seems like a dick move to make an offer and then say, "oh wait I can't pay for well over a week".
I don't see how it's a scam, but it's not cool either.

He would send an offer with a note at the bottom saying can't pay till July 3rd. I countered, he accepted with the same note.

-EXACTLY-
-not a "scam",... but like was mentioned, DICK MOVE to string you along, re-list it, tell him you hope he comes up with the $$$ first..

Yep, relist it. If I had a nickel for every time I went through that, and "can I make payments?", well, I'd have alot of nickels. And, EVERY time, they dicked me. EVERY time.

Request a deposit. $100 or so. That way he has skin in the game. If he isn't willing then tell him that you are not willing to miss out on a potential sale without a minimal deposit. That weeds out serious buyers from tire kickers.

Here's my recent Reverb story bought a set of Miracle man Bareknuckles when I went to get them installed my tech measured then to find out they were Story Monday's I contacted the seller he replied and refunded my money when I asked for his return address he told my happy Father's Day and to keep them as a gift ...I couldn't believe it ..so believe me there are great sellers out there .

Well that's heartwarming, what a guy.

I am almost 100% certain that this is not a scam,

I get these offers all the time and so far it's been 100% of the time they never have the money on the date they say they will or something else will happen. For this reason I will never do deposits even if they are not refundable because if they pay Paypal they are REFUNDABLE regardless of if you have E-mail proof, all they have to do is file a claim with Paypal and poof your deposit is gone.

Also payment plans never work either, I am speaking from 15 years plus gear selling experience.

In the future let offers ride till the day they can pay. If you end the auction and then relist because the guy couldnt pay people are going to see the relisted item and assume something was wrong with the item or something fishy was going on so they will be reluctant to make an offer or bid like they would have initially.

Last thing is that you the OP of this thread is in the wrong and should not post someone's full name on a public forum especially since nothing bad has happen yet. By all means share the info if the guy is a scammer or does you wrong but I also don't think it's right to be posting and sharing people's full names on a forum like this if they haven't even done anything wrong yet. This info stays on Google searches for years and could cause unintended harm to the person who's name is posted.

Should have told him to send you a down payment to hold it for 2 weeks, and stipulate that if he doesn't pay by the 3rd, he forfeits the payment.

Unless its a cashiers check type money order or sent via check or postal money order the deposit is always refundable if its sent via Paypal or Reverb or third party credit card payment service. Been there done that.

Paypal will always refund the deposit even if you have E-mail and documentation showing that is what it was agreed to. All they care about is was product delivered, if not they will refund the transaction.

Aaaaaaaand he just backed out on me. Some story about his ex-wife and son and needing a retainer for a lawyer. Could be true I dont know, hope the best for him but I had a gut feeling and should had went with it.

Well at least you didn't get ripped off. Damned deadbeat buyers.

People w/o money... shouldn't be wasting other people's time. Get the money first... then buy gear.

I hear ya, but I've been there and had a member gracious enough to hold an amp (and shipped it after making a deposit) for me so figured I should at least do the same for someone else but I wasn't sure what I was stepping into with a reverb transaction. Oh well, it could have been much much worse.

Reverb has layaway options now that you can have set up. You just have to be part of their preferred seller program. Then you can take a deposit to hold the item and the buyer can make payments. You don't ship until its paid. If they buyer doesn't complete the payments they get a refund of the payments beyond the deposit, and you keep the original deposit.

There really isn't that much scamming happening on Reverb. They have ~200,000 listings at any given time and people only talk about things when they go wrong. If that's a couple times a year to different people Rig Talk would have you thinking its an epidemic and if you list something you'll automatically lose it. None of that is happening. Reverb CS is very invested in making sure everyone is happy and treated fairly.

I tell em like this. I will hold it. Unless someone sends me cash first.
And I am very clear bout that.
