I'm stuck in St. Louis for two weeks. Had a gig lined up on the 8th back home but have to back out to it do to my work schedule... So I'm just playing the guitar in my hotel room in my spare time. Any amazing gear shops/open blues jams up this way?

Eddie's is by far the best in the area.

Fazio's is cool and has a good selection but not as much high end gear as Eddie's. If you are here for two full weeks though maybe it would be worth a drive.

Could come see my band play a free show with a few other bands at Fubar on Friday if bored.

I'm down, pm me info on the show.

I think you have to call ahead and let Eddies know you are coming down. Or at least you used to.

Call for appointment @ Eddies least thats how its always been. Bring your snobbery there.

It hasn't always been that way. Wouldn't surprise me if they didn't start that after your first visit.

To the OP, this city has a huge crime problem.

Avoid downtown [day or night] and don't go anywhere alone if possible.

If something doesn't seem right ... its not.

Uber is great here, hightly recomended.

I don't wanna pay your Medicare.

Encouraging someone to commit suicide. Nice. You really are the piece of shit I thought you were.

Eddies is sketchy at best. Their "brand-new-in-the-box" amps/axes are usually floor demo items. And they will deal on price, but if something is damaged by UPS/FedEx get ready for a bumpy ride. Not the best service.

Eddies gets used guitars from dealers that don't sell and tries to sell them as new retail.

If money is no object then you can hang out there and be Big man on Campus as they blow sunshine up your ass while taking your money.

If you're on a budget like most of us ACME has the coolest Vintage stuff at affordable prices.

Killer Vintage has cool stuff but prices are way too high.

I'll try to hit em all. Not particularly looking for exotic/expensive vintage gear... just good shops with a used selection. They're becoming more scarce to come by. I jump at a chance to check these out when I travel. If the right PRS/Gibson/whatever happens to be there at a price I can stomach.... I'll get it. If not, I spent an afternoon gear hunting in a city I've never been too. Win-win in my book.

I've done A LOT of business with Eddies... from day one I've never had a problem. They've sent boxes with swag(pick the actual item up in store) in it to help me avoid taxes since I'm in Illinois and always given me a great deal ...not just off retail but a great deal. Treat people with kindness and most will return it that way. Go in complaining about how they do business and scoff... you get the idea. I think you really only have to make an appointment if you want to try out an amp at volume. I've run through there many times off the cuff. Nathan is a good dude, they all are. They have stuff set up at retail on the tag but you get the actual price when you ask...

"kindness" .... mmm okay, not my experience.

Matt is cooi, Eddies son is a Dick.

They make appoinments because the shop is in the heart of Maplehood [maplewood] MO and they keep the front door locked to keep walkins from ripping them off.

They're the type of shop that i wouldn't be surprised if they asked for a deposit to try gear.

Highly over-rated.

If you think Eddies is the Pinnacle of STL then you don't truly know what St. Louis has to offer.

I never said anything about being a pinnacle but clearly you have some beef with them for whatever reason.

And you're right you have to be buzzed in, don't have to make appointments to stop by though

That makes sense. They have some amps/guitars that have been sitting there for like 4-5 years... that they are trying to sell at new-stock prices. Not going to happen in this market. I've bought a few things from them that come in random boxes, missing manuals, power chords, "shop-wear" when described as "DEAD-MINT BRAND-NEW" on the phone. Not one of my preferred dealers by a long shot. They do deal on prices though.

I've never seen a shop in the area that has better gear than Eddie's.

Suhr, Tom Anderson, Ernie Ball, Jackson, Fender Custom, Gibson, PRS etc.
Bogner, Diezel, Orange, Carol Ann, Dr. Z., Friedman, Fryette, Soldano, Engl, Mesa

Nothing but high end shit. Who in the entire Stl region has anything like that? Nobody?

With that said the snobbery is there and was a bit awkward going in but the young sales guy is cool and once they let me in the amp room it was just me, a gearhead sales kid and walls of death.

Definitely worth the trip.

Also ya St. Louis can be bad. Just like any other city. You could stay inside the hotel for two weeks and be safe lol. I've never had any issues ever in downtown stl.
