What makes the 50 watt sound more aggressive is the lower plate voltage. It just has more distortion and sounds more raw.

Yes that helps too.

Another thing is the filtering is typically more aggressive since the lower voltage allows you to run the main, and screen caps in parallel vs series on the 100w.

so is there any story behind that note about not changing out the pot without Adam's consent?

Did someone do it without telling him, and get fired? :D

Let's just say Adam is very particular and anal retentive. It's not that great to work with him unless you and him are on the same page.

I wouldn't even consider that being anal. I wouldn't be happy with anyone changing stuff in my gear either without asking me first. Sure, there are guitar players who just pick up whatever guitar and play through whatever amp, and don't worry too much about their gear, but I've spent a lot of time figuring out what works for me as I'm sure a lot of you have.

Sorry to bump but does anyone know what value caps are in the original picture?

In the picture the bridge cap I can make out the number 47 I'm guessing 47nF?
The neck looks like a 22nF but that's pretty hard to read.

Doesn't really matter, I've done tests on my own guitar but I was just curious.

Does anyone actually know which pickup he is using? Or used from AEnima to 10k Days.

JB seems to be the most common answer but I don't think that's confirmed. I've also read it may be a Custom made SD pickup (not a SD Custom) or a SD Distortion.

The caps in the guitar pictured are typical stock caps found in Norlin-era LPs. Again, nothing magical.
Here's a photo of my '79 Silverburst. Look familiar?

I wonder if he's using the stock 100k tone pots?

I was going to replace the ones in mine to 500k, but I ended up just disconnecting them since I want to keep the original pots in there.

Those look like stock neck volume(that he never uses), and tone pots. I have a 1980 all stock and they look the same minus his extra ground wires. Just looks like just the Alessandro bridge vol pot and an old SD Distortion with extra grounding. Nothing super special, the tone is mostly from his amps and hands.
