Ya, I saw this too.

Not that I'm any connoisseur of Marshall tone, but the clips were both - to me - not what a full on, blooming Marshall that's punching ya in the gut sounds like. Maybe they were both a bit tamed, and therefore, homogenous sounding.

However, there've been a few A/B tests that the very best (cough *Dave* ahem *Friedman*) couldn't tell theirs from the Axe's.

How you making out with your A2 anyway Stevie?? Whatcha rockin' 'em through monitor wise?? I'm still floored by the CLRs. Just the other day I decided yet again to crank them up, seeing as I'd JUST installed 10.06 or whatever it is now... Damn, they got balls man!! :D

I've settled down with an axe II recently as well. What does your axe rig look like Steve?

I still have the RCF's but waiting on the wait list very impatiently for the CLR's. I think they are releasing in the next week or so, enough to fill the wait list. Got two wedges on order.

It looks like this right now....

Straight into active wedges.

Two KLs!

Do you run any pedals into the axe? I'm considering it.

Direct and FOH, I haven't been able to tell apart a nice modeler from a miked amp in a long time. The comparison clips often sound different, but nothing that I can detect as "artificial."

Not sure it validates anything. Same guy dialing in most likely means they will sound the same. Not a knock on the Axe, just not a validation - and at this point I don't think the Axe needs validation.

Heard about a cool new Fractal product about to hit the market today. People will very much like I think. :)

Easy to do when things just sound perfect from the get-go.

Actives I trust?

As for running pedals - I'm pretty impressed with Dweezil's set up. But the fact is - I barely use pedals with my amps, so I can't see the need to use what's beyond the content of the A2 as is. I love a few of my pedals - CAL.Mk.4:23Pro, Clyde Deluxe, Octron2 - but there's nothing I can't really get the essence of that's not already in the Axe.

But I do find Dweezil's set up pretty inspirational to say the least:

Do tell........is it that rumored effects floorboard? If so does it come with 'some' amp models as well???

Nah, but I can't tell. Just letting you guys know that there are cool things in the works for sure. :)

i think any decent engineer would be able to make it impossible to distinguish an Axe II from a real amp in a mix, or even isolated most of the time, they are killer studio tools.

The thing for me like a ton of other people was that live on stage at volume it didn't feel or respond like a real amp, yes it sounded killer from out front but for the player it missed that mojo.

Plus it was a bastard to quickly tweak during a show because of all the presets etc, i find it much simpler playing a head with pedals...

For the guys on big productions with in ears and a clean stage it's a no brainer

Guitar -> Axe -> 2 - lines to FOH from Ouput 1 + 2-Active Wedges from Output 2

Doesn't get any easier or better.

Not sure how that was mic'd up for the vid but that sounds very digital. Pretty bad tones.
I'm sure it must sound better in the room.

I have not used a real amp since december.

If I do use a real amp, it is my Diezel with a Two Notes Torpedo Live. But, then I have to muck around with pedals, FX, loops, etc. The Axe is so much easier and in a band mix, nobody can tell any difference. FOH clarity and stereo delivery with the Axe is unbeatable. Either way, I am so glad to have ditched the speaker cabs and all the ice picks, stage noise, ambient crud, mic placement, EQ and shit soundmen....
