Interesting... John Sykes endorsing EVH amps?

Hopefully it inspires him to get some new music out to us fans.

Tried the El34 big boy at volume and I felt it uninspiring. Really hard to explain over the Internet, just the tone wasn’t doing it for me. It had gain yes, but just plugged strait in no effects, it just felt empty. After that I haven’t even desired an El34 50 or 100W version. I absolutely love my Marshall with a boost out front. I guess I’m the odd one out.

I ho same goes for the 6l6 version. Loads of gain and articulation, but if you've played a boosted slp you hear (and feel) there's something missin.

I can understand why he would want to tour with new amps, that can be serviced all over the world, and replaced if need be :) His Mesas and Marshalls are closing in on 40(?) years.
Also when travelling overseas. and having an amp ready, that sounds just like the one at home must be tempting. Most artists have to consider all expenses these days.

I'd love it if he profiled his 1987 or Blue Murder tone into a Kemper and just relived it live! All those pitch shifters, chorus and reverb haha!

I know what you guys mean about the EVH amp just feeling a little characterless. It's very good at what it does... make you wonder what's missing haha

I’ve owned the 6L6 version stealth EVH. Was great.
But now have the EL34 100 watt stealth and it is Superb!!!
Guess depends on the set up. I play thru two 4x12s. Cranked. :D
Maybe if played low volumes thru a 2x12 it won’t have the same feeling or effect.
But the amp is a bad ass.

Exactly. If I owned the Jose Marshall that John used on Bad Boy live, no way I’d take that on the road..that amp sounds incredible. I’m sure he got free or deeply discounted gear from EVH. But as cool as they are, no comparison imo to his Mesas/Marshall’s.

You would think he would have at least joined the new rendition of thin lizzy instead of damon Johnson. The dude aint done shit in years.

Using modern amps just makes sense for a touring artist. Another reason why you see so many BOSS pedals on pro boards. They're heavy duty and if something happens, a quick trip to virtually any guitar shop and you'll find a replacement.

I liked Sykes tone with the Mesa gear on "Screaming Blue Murder" much better than the Jose Marshall on "Bad Boy Live".

I didn't even know Sykes still played guitar

In his recent days, he's mostly been interviewed at NAMM, saying stupid shit, showing that he is out of touch with reality

You're not alone. I felt the same about it.

John - "Don't follow anything unless it says 'Official' John Sykes"

Interviewer - "You know anyone can make a profile that says 'official', right?"

John - "Really? Aw man"

Basically, you can tell that he hasn't been involved in society since Turkeys were called "Walking Birds"

It's a little thin and fuzzy for me. Palm mutes aren't even very distinct. I just don't get the love affair over that tone. Love Sykes, just never jived with the tone on that album... :dunno:

I might back the presence down a tad, but it's a pretty smokin' tone, if you ask me!
