What is the diff between an Ipad and a Netbook? Besides the obvious Apple vs PC. Netbooks are dirt cheap.

what are the options for playing live on an ipad?

also, as the above poster stated
why not a mini lap top?
I think I'd prefer running revalver instead of an i-app

Ipad2 has the A5 chip and is really fast, much faster than my MacBook Pro and it is only a yr old. The new macs are running a quad chip which is super fast to the point where the computer will do things before you ask lol.

1. It's got a bigger screen. That alone makes it a completely different device, in terms of interfacing with it, using recording apps, synths, guitar modelers, etc.

2. GB is not available for iPhone, and this app alone is worthwhile, as are Multitrack DAW and Looptastic HD (the latter being way better than on a smaller screen).

3. A 16GB iPad 2 is $499. A 32GB iPod touch is $299.

4. You cannot use the camera connector kit with the iPhone to use various USB devices like you can with the iPad. At least not that I've read, and none have so far worked for me.

I have both an iPhone and an iPad, both 32GB. I don't really use them for the same things all the time, and both have allowed me to travel with just the iPad+iPhone, instead of always needing a laptop.

Cool, I suppose I see the use in that.

I see a price of $629.99 at Best Buy for the 16gb iPad 2 though. Just a quick google search: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Apple%26%23 ... Id=2341061

So to me it's not worth more than twice the money, but it does look pretty cool none the less.

Well, now I see the one for $499.... interesting...

The 16GB wifi-only is $499. The 16GB w/ wifi+3G (Verizon or ATT) is $629. I use mine with my iPhone tethered, so I didn't need the 3G version.

I had an Asus top end netbook, and despite trying Windows XP, Windows 7, and Ubuntu all on it, I thought it sucked. Everything is too slow, the screen res sucks, and the wifi range blew. It's also heavier than the iPad, even with the external BT keyboard. If I choose to bring the BT keyboard with, it's a full keyboard, yet is really light.

I don't know, netbooks work for some people. But I think there's a pretty damn good reason the sales of them have taken a nosedive.

And guys, don't get the iRig. With anything but Amplitube, it's unusable. Save your money and get the Jam.

I picked up a Refurb 32G iPad before the new one came out. I was in the "its an oversized iTouch camp" when they 1st announced them and did not want one at all, till i messed around with one a friend had. Use it all the time now for watching movies and music apps as well it really is a neat tool.

not sure about using it playing live - you mean plug in your guitar and play? You gotta get the Apogee Jam or iRig for that, but playing the virtual guitar is actually really cool. I'm just using it for outlining songs and melodies. bBtween the guitars, keys, and drums I can whip up a demo of a tune in my head in no time.

I've used mine with iRig/Amplitube for a jam, from the 1/8" out to 1/4" dual plugs, into the PA. My POD shit the bed, and I really didn't feel like lugging my amp when it was just for an hour or so. Worked fine! Not tube amp awesomeness, but still pretty impressive for what it is.

My buddy uses his ipad 1 as the controller for his Logic setup. Pretty handy for when he's tracking drums (which he plays himself) or records a vocal take. There are so many uses for the ipad/iphone, it's unbelievable! I mean c'mon, you can check your pulse with the light from the camera flash!

Yeah, you can use VNC to remote into your main DAW computer and control it remotely, which is a pretty cool use. I've done that when I'm in the next room over with the drums.

Anyone see the jam for sale anywhere or is it out of stock everywhere?

Also, you can use the camera connection kit with a powered usb hub and something like an m audio fast track to get the same results if you already have some of that stuff.

The Jam is out of stock everywhere. I've been looking for it too.

Yes, you can attach some USB interfaces with success. However, it's not universal. There's a pretty comprehensive list available of what works here:

This is a support forum for Multitrack DAW, which is another really good app that works on both iPhone and iPad.
