There's a ton of knowledge here that goes beyond music... Might as well exploit it!! Hehe!

But, the case in point (pardon the pun) is that I'm looking for a case for the 16g 3Gs that's a hard-case, with smooth plastic back and rubber only on the sides. That way it's non-slip to hold, yet can slip in and out of a pocket rather easily...

Any suggestions?

I'd just recommend a iSkin case honestly. Not what you described..but it's the best skin I've had for the iPhone by far....to date.

Hi Eric,

Really? I've found that soft rubber flexible cases tend to scratch (ipods) because when dirt gets between the case and the phone/ipod, the flexibility of the case causes the dirt to grind against the device.

Plus, an all rubber case like that will probably make it a pain to insert into a pant pocket, as well as take it out.

I'll look into it though... -Danny

It's not a "rubber"..... It's more of a pliable plastic. Doesn't scratch my ipod in the least. It's very easy to get in / out of my pocket. I use it all friggin day...and it's awesome in every way honestly man.

I have the iSkin Solo...and love it to death. I use mine for work...so I get it in / out of my pocket all the time. It's just grippy enough to not slide off of your pants leg when you are sitting down. But it goes in / out of the pocket really easily honestly.

I have an Incipio case that is rubber, with a plastic thing that clips to the back so its way easier to get in and out of your pocket. Sounds like what you're describing. I actually got mine from the AT&T store and I kno they still carry them. It comes with both a white and black rubber case, and the plast clip on thing is thin and doesnt really add any weight. The case kit also comes with a film to stick to the glass.

This. I have the same case for my 32G 3GS and it is exactly what the OPdesxribed that he was looking for.

Hey dudes, Ive been through literally 20 cases for my Iphone...go to an ATT store and check out the Ifrogz case...its my favorite, its grippy, but you can get it out of your pocket without pulling the pocket out...its a keeper.

32g 3GS? You bastard. :D

Thanks for all the suggestions... I'm going to stop by the AT&T and Apple Store tonight and try and look at some of the ones you guy mention here...

Hey putnut77, which iFrogz case is the one you have. It seems, from the reviews that the most popular one is the Luxe.

These are pretty nice. The guy that sold me mine had one on his iPhone. You can get em for about $14 shipped off eBay. I don't have any real user experience with one but he let me put it in pocket. Didn't feel too slippery in my hand either.

Hey guys, I ended up going with the Incipio case. Mainly because it's exactly what I was looking for originally... Rubber around the edges and a hard plastic back.

I checked:

iFrogz: Yeah, it was pretty cool, but I wanted a bit more protection and a little more grip. I really liked the orange one.

iSkin: Might be great Eric, but I couldn't find it locally and I was not willing to wait to order it. :(

Otterbox: Pretty nice, but overkill for me. Also, I don't put my phone on my belt, I need it in my pocket. I use tight pants. Otter don't fit. Hehehe.

So... So far I'm happy with what I got. Time will tell. Plus, the package contains a black and a white one. :)

-Cheers, Danny

BTW, apart from Guitar Toolkit... Any other guitar app worth having?

Cool thread! This case thingie might be an actual thing for me because I might buy an Iphone. I'm used to keeping mobile phones in the front pocket of jeans, are there any good options for that?

Don't want to hijack this thread but how are you folks liking the 3GS so far? I've heard about the problems with the battery life but how are you doing with it? There's some talk that v3.1 might fix part of the battery life problem though. Nokia N97 buttrapes the iphone 3GS for its specs but damn the iphone is so smooth to control with the fantastic touch screen! Not to mention great website browsing, huge amount of apps etc. I might go and check if there are any 32gb 3GS' in the local stores which sell it. The 32gb 3GS costs 564€ and N97 costs 625€...

iStroboSoft is really cool, but you may not want it since you have the toolkit. I think the FourTrack app is pretty cool if you want to quickly layer a few tracks. The down side is you can't adjust the playback volume of what you've recorded or the metromome, so it can be difficult to track in that respect. The quality of the audio is really good though just using the iphone mic I've gotten nice results. There may be better 4 track apps, this is the only one I've tried though.

My battery life hasn't been horrible. I can usually go about 2 days before it completely dies on me. But I'm not sitting there on it non-stop for everything I do. Just using it when I need it, which may be less than alot of people. I have chargers at home, work and in my car so it hasn't been an issue for me yet. Turn the wi-fi off unless you need it on and don't leave web pages open unless you're using them. I think turning off location service unless you're using an app that needs it helps too. I killed my battery 3x in a row and did a full charge after each when I first got it, which is supposed to "condition" the battery. I've only had mine about 2 weeks and love it. The video camera rocks for recording quick guitar clips too. Quality is pretty damn good for picture and audio! Pretty quick process to record something and upload it to youtube. It think it took me all of 15 minutes from start to finish

Cool! I'm gonna visit the stores next week! It's quite strange that Apple started offering the 3GS in small Finland directly together with the "big" countries but the fact that Nokia's Finnish might have something to do with it. :D

It's a great case and is exactly what you described in your initial post. I dig mine!

So far I'm very happy with the phone. I'm used to being able to go 3 days without charging with my old crappy Nokia. But, I can go all day with the iPhone and not have to charge it. So far, I only charge it overnight.

I have no problems of it over-heating either. I was a little worried about it before I got it, but I couldn't be happier. Maybe if it weren't so popular. That's what I've always liked about Apple. Unfortunately, they're trying to be the new Microsoft.
