is a diezel cab worth the money

I've pretty much always played through marshall cabs. I have had a mesa and a couple of splawns.I never actually A/B the cabs though.
A friend of mine swears his mesa cab sounds so much better than his marshall cab.So I was wondering what you guys thought. Is it worth $1200 to upgrade to a diezel 4x12 ? If I did I can't see me keeping the V30's that come in it.

I've owned a Mesa Traditional slant, and a Bogner slant both with V30s. Not a Diezel, but I think the Bogner is built the same? I thought they were all built in the same location.
I do think that both the Mesa and the Bogner are a step up from a 1960, although I do love the 1960 as well. The Mesa/Bog cabs make V30s sound very sweet and full, whereas V30s in a Marshall can be kinda harsh. I've read the Diezel cabs are also this way with V30s.

The thing about the “newer” Diezel cabs is their baffling.
There’s a video (don’t have a link, sorry) where Peter Staffler explains the cabs.

Great cabs. Although I prefer the Front Loaded versions and have had great results mixing a V30 loaded cab with a K100 loaded cab in a FULL STACK!!
The K100’s are clear and loud, V30’s obviously give a bit of mid bump. Together, SWEETNESS

The 1960AV and BV do not carry V30 speakers. Maybe that's the main reason. Those have a so called Celesion G12 Vintage, it's a different speaker than a marshall sort of an inbreed between the T75 and V30. It has a bit more top end presence, a bit of a mid cut and the bass sounds thinner compared to a V30. It is however a good match to most Marshall amps.

I love mine. You can find them used for cheaper.

I only paid $440 for mine which was a super deal.

I have a German made Diezel front loaded with K100's as well as a Bogner UberKab rear loaded with a set of V30's/G75's in an X pattern. Both sound great, different but great. Aren't you in the Atlanta area?

I had a FL K100 Diezel cab. Didn’t like all K100... mixing in 2 v30s was a lot better. Ultimately though everything sounded a lot better through my Fryette Fat Bottom cab with Fane F70s. Even when I put Fanes in the Diezel cab it didn’t sound as good. The Diezel was still a nice cab though. I ended up selling the Diezel cab and got another Fryette cab

I do love 1960 cabs, and have 2 now. But in the past I have loaded 4 V30s from a Fender Tonemaster cab (English made V30s) into a Marshall 1960 and found it harsh...then I put 2 T75s and tried the X pattern. I still feel the Mesa or Bogner cabs soften the harshness I hear when I've put them in the Marshall cab. I know the Bogner has batting while the Mesa does not, yet they are similar in some ways.

yes I'm in canton about 20 min north of Atl

One of my favourite cabs of all time was a rear loaded diezel cab with V30's

I like mine. One of my favorite 4X12s. Mine is FL with V30s. It's worth it to me compared to Marshall, Mesa, etc.

I’m in Johns Creek, just hit me up if you ever want to come over and try them out.

What exactly about the Fryette cab did you prefer to the Diezel when they had the same speakers? Which one was tighter? I heard some say the Diezel should be tightest cab out there, so I’ve been curious, but if the Fryette is even tighter, I may look for that instead

I’ve only gotten to try Diezel 4x12’s with all K100’s and also didn’t like it, but with other speakers in it I can see it being promising

The diezel cab was darker sounding, seemed to have more low-end, not boomy just seemed like added bass relative the Fryette cab. The Fryette cab seemed a little tighter, but they're both pretty tight. Hard to describe, things just sound better to me through the Fryette cab.

the Fryette cab says it has custom speakers in it. I don't like speakers made for a particular manufacture

While they have the label F70g in the fryette cab, but they're the same speaker as the Fane F70. I have F70s from Fane in another cab.

I wouldn’t be put off by “proprietary” speakers. All that matters is what comes out of the cab.

I have owned a large number of cabs with various speakers in them and I believe that it takes time to determine the ideal matching of speakers (FL versus RL), cab, amp, and pickups.

I did sell off all my cabs (Marshall, Diezel, ENGL, Mills Acoustics, KSR, Bogner, Fryette (I probably missed something here, lol)) except for the cabs I have owned the longest, my MESA "Stilletto (the smaller rectifier cab)" 4x12 with 2 V30's and 2 EVM 12L's since they had the best tone for me (possibly due to using them the longest so my ears now prefer this combination). I pair it up with a 1x12 Mesa cab and I am able to turn the volume up or down for each cab due to a stereo mixing with my power amp. This might also be the determining factor for me since I can turn up the preferred speaker/cab in this setup.

I had many of the Diezel cabs and they did sound pretty good but I believe they are better matched with Diezel amps, and I thought I liked the earlier cabs that were made out here "slightly" more, but it might have been due to being broken in where the others had no play time on them and that can be a major factor since new speakers can sound a little harsh and lack that sweet spot until broken in.

One cab I did always consider purchasing again was an ENGL XXL FL cab.

It sounded great but when it arrived to my home I found that UPS had dropped it at some point and had torn off a large strip of tolex on the top so I returned it with the plan to repurchase it again, however, prices went up for it and I had just done the swap of 2 V30's for 2 EVM's and I found I really liked the way the cab was sounding with my current equipment.

One thing you could try doing is determining what cab/speakers sound best with your amp and pickups.

A good way to do it would be to connect a Two Notes Live or Studio to your amp then try to find a cab and speakers that stand out to you then see if the real one works the same way for you.

Also, every amp, cab, and pickups work well for different things.

For example, you might like one setup specifically for your rhythms where it doesn't work as well for leads or cleans and vice versa, so trying your current setup through a Two Notes might help you.

Well, good luck, since most of us know what you are going through right now :-)

Then you're missing out. Fryette Fat Bottom Cabs & even the Deliverance Cabs are some of the best cabs i have ever heard. They are tight & punchy. The Bogner straight cabs are amazing with V30's or Greenbacks. Mesa Traditional Cabs are great as well....Even the oversized work great with Marshalls, I used an Original OS Cab with my Jubilee back in the early 2000's and it sounded great.
