Is a JCM900 MKIII 2100 just a JCM800 with a Jose mod?

Hey guys, I’ve had this amp for a while and some people have told me that it’s the exact same amp as a JCM800 but with an added optional clipping diode gain section. I have no clue if it’s the same or not but looking for wisdom on the subject. It seems like some don’t like them because of the diode clipping, but if I’m correct in my understanding doesn’t the additional diode clipping basically just make it a Jose mod? Obviously idk but looking for suggestions. I want to know if with a hood mod I can basically make this a makeshift meshuggah
 
Negative. From what I understand the extra gain clipping on there is just an added boost function that operates somewhat like an OD pedal. Definitely nothing like a real Jose modded circuit.

MKIII’s are a little hard to find. Expand your search option by seeking out the SL-X. Not quite as open sounding as the MKIII but very similar.
 
The JCM900s are probably the least "marshall" Marshalls ever made. Supposedly the SLXs are closer to it's heritage but overall still seems off the mark.

I'm the other way around. The first tube amp I ever played was a 900. I couldn't believe those were the tube amps that everytone was talking about.

I later learned it was a Dual Reverb, and those seem to get the worst reviews of the bunch.

But still, didn't really leave me much desire to give the others a chance.

Personally, I'd rather play a Valvestate than a 900 for the uber aggro high-end uber tight (borderline thin) low-end.

I feel as though the DSL is the best amp Marshall has released within the last 20 years (green channel)The answer for Marshall now, is NOT to look forward. But to look back, back to what guiarists want. Hire the guy from Certione and give him a couple mil. Get some single channel amps going.

I really enjoy the amp, including the diode clipping. It gives it a somewhat nasally quality that reminds me of early deftones that I find pleasing. I wanted to see if I could make it work for the low drop F chuggy bois but still have that kinda harsh aggressive Marshall sound. So far I’ve managed it but I need to dime both gain knobs with a fortin 33 and Klon in front of it. I’m hoping if I get one of the hot mods I’ll have to rely less on the pedals.

I remember playing the amp in Mars Music and thinking it rocked. Crank it up!!!!!
