Is any amp in the same league as a Wizard?

I have had several and nothing is better to my ears, the new MC MK2 version is mind blowing. That being said $5,500 for an amp? There are many other amps that are awesome for way less money.

What should sting more is the glass is worth more than what I paid for it. I found it locally for $525 cash. A seasoned studio session recorder was selling 30+ amps, this was one of them and the only one I wanted out of them all.

The goal to me is to spend the money where it counts. Not just to spend money. I’m happy with my Laney, peavey, etc.

The gh100s is one of those ultra sleeper amps

They're so rare though

Ive had notifications for if one ever pops up on reverb for years and they never, ever seen to pop up

Wizards are rare too. But you won’t find a Laney for $5000, they usually go for 1500 or so. Built in the UK and even has a soft start circuit to preserve tube life.

I might list mine for $6500 just to see what happens ?

Ha! Nice score. It's got real weight behind the notes. Very heavy sounding. I love that. Similar to my Hermansson. That's the first thing that hit me when I played through the Hermansson; it had massive weight behind the notes. Much more than any other amp I've owned prior.
 
Sounds like a whole lotta overlap.

I think a cranked up JCM800 and an SD-1 will give anything a run for it's money, personally. Cranked up only happens for me maybe once a week, the other 3 or 4 days I play is at lower volumes, so I can't justify having one, or I would.

I'd certainly look at a Helios too. Killer amp.

Yep. I've owned GH50L's and a GH100L. They definitely have some mojo. They fly WAY under the radar.

My parting thoughts are that it appears you have the means and funds to do whatever here. So I say buck up and get the Wizard of choice. If in the end it is not the end all be all you know you can flip it with no issue and have the funds again to go get 1 or 2 of the other amps on your hot list and still be very happy.

I knew you weren't being a dick. Don't know if it helped anyone else figure out my thought process, but answering them helped me recap my thoughts as I read through all the responses and figure things out a bit better. I'm 99.9% sure I would like and bond well with a Wizard. So it's coming down to if it would inspire me in a different way than another amp to where the cost can be somewhat justified. I'm not a professional musician, and frankly hardly play out. I do write my own songs, but that's mostly for me. If it's something I do want I'll save and buy, but spending $5000+ on a single amp is still a hard pill to swallow.

I wouldn't say I have the funds to just buy something on a whim. What I do have is a very cool wife. As long as everything is taken care of financial and I'm not eating into savings or running up debt she doesn't say anything about my frivolous spending. I'm lucky in that I can just say I want to save up to buy this and she says okay. Of course I extend the same to her.

I still have a bit of saving to do so I have some time to figure things out. I'm just one who like to plan in advance, but sometimes I get too far ahead of myself. I should probably slow down and spend more time enjoying the Gemini and Peters and get the IronHorse that should be ready in April.

This is how I do it, too - and I don't even have a wife to worry about! I just prefer to plan big purchases ahead of time.

i didnt know these were becoming sought after. mines cool, its blown up a couple times though, once it was the sgr's and the other i cant even remember what my tech told me, something with a tube socket caused something to burn up.

Yeah but you have three in front of the amp….not sure what diodes have to do with anything.

Same. We have a lot in common. I write stuff for me. Always looking for inspiration. Not a professional musician. Far from it. I have a cool wife. I make most of the money but she works too as a part time nurse. She spends most of the money but wouldn't be mad if I bought another one. $5K out of the checking account for a Wizard? Now that would def have to be planned out :yes:
