Is any gear from today going to be a classic?

Oh yeah, I forgot, anything built by Ed Roman!!

TC 2290 TC1210
Rat R2DU
The actual BK Butler Tube Driver pedals

Some others mentioned:
Bogner Ecstasy, Shiva and Ubers
Older Marshalls SJ, JCM800, JMPs

If we could figure out what would be classic and worth more later Im sure most would invest just to hold and resell :D

None of the gear that's out now is going to be 'classic'. It's just a rehash of all the gear that is already classic.

God I love making blanket statements! It's so much fun!!!

How about, in 30 years nobody will give a crap about anything related to guitar gear. It seems like that's the direction the music bizz is headed anyway. Auto-tune version 1 will be a sought after classic.

I don't worry about it because what will be will be. But 30-40 years ago electric guitar music was new and lots of new guitarists where comng up with cool tones that were different and they became popular and sought after. That can't happen again because it's already been done. I see a decline in guitar music in years to come. People wont' be caring about guitar music it if it becomes too regurgitated.
I mean, how many more great and different guitar tones are yet to be discovered? Companies keep releasing and revising old products.

>The Line6 stuff from about 10 years ago because of it's significance in modelling breakthoughs

>PRS stuff for it's woods & craftsmanship

>Early editions of ProTools

>#1 piece of gear for the history books> The iPhone.

Diezel, ENGL, Bogner, THD, etc...
We are very lucky to live in a time when you can buy something that is awesome right outta the box!

I mean, remember how big horn instruments were? Swing almost had a huge comeback in the 90's but it was short lived. You never know. I really hope this popular shit they call R&B dies. Where the blues in it?

Sorry dude.. but none of those are gonna be classics.
Classics are classics not because they're good gear. They're classics because there's a genre or major musical movement associated with them. 60's/70's = Plexi etc... 80's Charvel/Hotrodded Marshall... What do you have now? Nothing. A rehash of modded Marshalls and a reissue Charvels.

Maybe if Dave Friedman started acting all wierd and being a jerk, charging rediculous amounts of money for his work, or even just for email and phone time (which he will itemize and bill you) then post videos of him playing some odd ball and annoying guitar licks, kinda like that dumble guy, then for sure his work and amps will be classics that TGP'ers will spend 50 grand on.

Not quite sure I completely agree with that. But if you're correct, I guess I'll keep holding on to my Dual Recto because I can't think of another amp in recent history that changed the sound and face of music more than it did in the past twenty years.

Well I ain't much of a dude, but I've played since the land before time and have built amps almost as long. From what I've seen of Bogner, besides maybe the tone stack it has very little in common with a rehashed Marshall. The build quality of the amps I mentioned far surpasses any Marshall too. THD still makes the best PCB I've seen!
If someone still plays metal in 20 years or so, Bogners and Diezels will still have a fan base and likely will be very classic.
Besides, Marshall is just a rehashed Fender, which is just a rehashed RCA/Westinghouse circuit etc...
Plus, anything old could be classic, IMO.

pocket pod and gonkulator jump to mind. oh and bad horsie

Too much to list but no Charvel. Can't see them as a classic, but that's just me.

My big rig has 2x200wt reworked Bogen poweramps which amounts to 8xEL34.
bigrig.jpg

They had 8417s originally, which ain't in production hence the EL34s.(not interchangeable without modification)
When it's lit up, looks and sounds purdy dang classic to me, but then to me, anything made in the USA back in the 50s and 60s is classic. I may have to rack mount them someday, but I don't use big rigs at all any more, except maybe when I entertain my half of the city as I practice

Anything made by Benedetto, including the Fender stuff.

Pre-1995 PRSs

Klon Centaur

EH Deluxe Memory Mans (the ones that they just stopped making)

D*A*M Pro Mk II and any of the other Tone Bender clones he makes when the parts run out.

Suhrs, esp the S3 and up.

Mike Bloomfield Les Paul reissues (though they are ***way*** too expensive now)

Yeah. Hold on to the DR. The early ones have a shot at being classics.
