Seems like half of you guys are buying shitkicker boots, 10 gallon hats, and Chevy pickups.  And I'm starting to see more threads about Tele's than Charvels. What's going on? We had LA with sleazey hair metal, Seattle with Grunge, who gives a fuck about emo...........but are the next slew of bands going to be coming out of Nashville?

I guess chewing tobacco wouldn't be soo bad, but i ain't watching NASCAR under any circumstance, sorry. :D

Isnt that how it works???
When you get to old for the other types of music you go to country music because they will still accept a debut album from a 40-50,60 yr old??

You can still wear flannels, tight jeans and still use Aqua net

When NASCAR races at Road Atlanta, Watkins Glen and Infineon, it's no different than most other forms of racing.

Read somewhere recently that the only demo that still pays for music and buys CD's are Country fans.

I dunno but I know this - my best chance of seeing somebody actually play a guitar on TV is by seeking out one of the country channels....

It is another skill. Some versatile players know how to toss in some CP to spice things up. A Wood is a multigenre guitar killer.

I'm not a great tapper by any stretch. I can pull off (get it? :D ) some stuff once in awhile, but chicken pickin' is totally fucking alien to me.

We got them in NJ too.

Haha that is North or Central Jersey though, Because I do not see any pine tree's so they can't be Pineys..

No, that's down in the Pine Barrens in Lacey. There's miles and miles off woods down there with fire roads that go for miles. I used to ride ATV's down there for years until i got tired of running and hiding from the EPA or local cops.

Funny how there's people selling drugs on streetcorners, drunks all over the roads, they rip down acres and acres of forests so they can have a new fucking mall or Bed Bad And Beyond, yet the Nazi tree hugging assholes ignore the fact that the fucking malls they walk around in are there because they tore down a forest and they call the cops on ANY ATV riders they see. And we always ride in the sand down there, we never tore through undisturbed forest. The whole topic gets me fucking LIVID.

That is probably the only part of the Pine barrens I have not been in.. North east tip, I do not even think they fall into the Piney Stereo type until you go down into Burlington county..
I tried to buy property in the Pines but it was to expensive you had to buy some many acres and leave so many tree's within them acres, Top that with the cost of a well and septic to much $ for me Unless you bought an older lot with a house on it already..

It wouldn't be the first time. At some point in the nineties and early 00's, country music seemed to have a rock overhaul. I think a batch of rock guys who never made it in LA or Austin moved to Nashville to join country/rock hybrids or to do studio work with the big country bands as a last chance to make it big.

Tapping has evolved alot over the years from the 50's when it was introduced on acoustic instruments to the 70's/80's rock solo and to modern metal where short bursts of tapping and legato are mixed with riffs and rhythms guitar parts (like the band Sikth)

Chicken picking seems to be more unchanged, although a few rock/metal shredders like Buckethead, John5, Andy Wood etc use it in a non-country context. I'm blabbing now, and I don't think I answered the question.

Chicken picking is the new tapping in the sense that players that are predominantly rock seem to do it to flash their skills. It feels like I´ve seen a few instrumental albums with one token chicken picking song lately.

But with that said, the guys doing it in Nashville sure are more popular than they´ve been since forever. Gotta be the Brad Paisley effect.

I always thought of tapping as more of a flash fad than a style (maybe Stanley Jordon's the exception). Chicken Picken's been around since forever and largely unchanged. Does seem to be integrating into more rock styles these days though. Certainly some of the best guitarists today are coming out of country music.

Tapping has been around since the 50's or maybe longer. And it is still used in modern rock and metal.

i see this big time. and most of the guys doing it to say "hey look!!! here is my token chickin pickin song" usually sounds like shit balls. not many shred guys out there sound like they can do it with conviction. most of em sound like they know 3 or 4 chickin pickin licks and then think thats enough to justify there sad attempt at a deep fried tune. there are exceptions of course, govan and timmons def throw down the redneck with authority. But for the most part shred guys trying to chickin pick sounds alot like nashville guys playing hard rock or trying the sweep tap circus licks, it just comes across as watered down and not as cool.

of course i could be wrong
