Is Houston still without power from Hurricane Beryl?????????????

I think about a half million people aint got power. I just got internet back this a.m. and I am in central Texas 40 mins from Austin. People who move here should expect lousy infrastructure. Bad roads and power and water outages are a normal part of life along with intense storms. Everyone has jeep, truck, bronco, suv for a reason besides just work culture. Many parts of TX are akin to 2nd and even 3rd world countries which is why it's different here. It's too vast to ever have all those things reliably.

I'm not sure who all here is from Houston (area) and I've only been there once but that place was not my cup of tea at all and I've been Texas maybe 8 or 9 times. But Houston was a thick steamy pile of humid poo. No offense. And if you want to live near a coast, you have to be ready for this kind of thing. Kind of like how I have to be ready for tornados and an upcoming New Madrid fault snap :dunno:

yes - even flat earth has faults

Our power went out the morning of the storm around 7:30. Power came back on the following day, Tuesday, around 5:30PM and remained on for almost 20 hours and then was just cut-off and did not come back on until Thursday around 7 that evening. My wife was in the hospital and had been for several days while all of this was going on - and then they released her Thursday while our house was still without power so we had to go to her sister's as she was one of the only people who did have power at that time. By now though most everyone I know has power except for some family near Galveston and Baytown.

No fucks to give. South Florida goes w/o power for 2-3 weeks after hurricanes all the item. Wilma + Katrina for example. Facts.

Buy a generator or move.
In tv reports, those most seriously affected and giving interviews appear to be unable to buy next week’s groceries, let alone a generator. IOW…”I’m poor, take care of me”

During the winter storm a few years ago and then the recent tornado that came through, it surprised me that on my street and surrounding area, only our house and one older guy across the street were running generators. Now, after Beryl hit, you could hear them running all over the place.

Living down here all of my life I've lived through so many of these damn things that it is expected so soon as one of those storms pops-up on the radar I'm making sure my water and supplies are good a week or two out and keep 5 gas cans ready for the season.

State of Tejas privitized all the public utilities & Hospital systems decades ago.
You can thank their republican eleceted officials for that.
Ever try to find a Doctor or turn on the lights in Texas ? Not happening.
Republicans in US Capital wanna do the same thing with your Social Security & Medicare,
Guess where that money would go ? After all US Taxpayer money is a "business" right ?

Now, now... everyone knows Proect 2025 is a stoopid deep state librul fake news myth complete with a 920 page policy manual written by The Heritage Foundation describing what they'll do if the GOP messiah is re-elected, and it's available to download for free on several sites. Nah, that can't be true...

Oh, wait... https://www.documentcloud.org/docum...ndate-for-leadership-the-conservative-promise

Most of it is common sense actually. There are some batshit crazy parts though. Although when viewed through the lens of current politics maybe not as crazy.
